Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Its been 9 years! And someone comes along with a play. Fans can hardly wait for that midnight party on Sunday!
It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes darkness comes from unexpected places.

Date with a DVD

#DateWithaDVD

MIRACLES FROM HEAVEN is based on the incredible true story of the Beam family. When Christy (Jennifer Garner) discovers her 10-year-old daughter Anna (Kylie Rogers) has a rare, incurable disease, she becomes a ferocious advocate for her daughter's healing as she searches for a solution. After Anna has a freak accident, an extraordinary miracle unfolds in the wake of her dramatic rescue that leaves medical specialists mystified, her family restored and their community inspired.

OK so it might be one not to see with your significant other, but a co-worker was telling me to day that she'd seen it with her kids and she thought it was really realistic and not too sappy.

Ghostbusters

OK..OK..I finally saw it, after being persuaded by a friend who saw it 3 times! Yes, its silly. Still, I felt all the characters were pretty much OK for this film. On a fun note it was great seeing "Thor" dance, all though, he was quite goofy. Summer fun, all the way in this slimy movie.

Joo Won

from Bridal Mask

I absolutely loved him in this outfit. Even if he was posing as a peasant in the 1930's K-Drama.

Is there anything Joo Won the actor can't do. He was brilliant! His Kang To could be so well hated. His favorite word when something was going his way..BINGO.

Joo Won showed off his singing and dancing talents as well. You LOVED him. You HATED him.

A Casanova. Still, he knew he was selling himself out to the Japs and in his heart there was one true LOVE. Still, this was one of my favorite scenes.

Joo Won the scene stealer! Definitely a Fashion King in anything.

Orange Marmalade

Featuring Orange Marmalade Couple

I guess what I like about this K-drama is the fact of the certainty of Vampires among us. Of course, it has a lot of Old Korean Folklore to go with it, yet it takes place in present day. And the key ingredient might be two students who find each other through music. Except one is a vampire from a working class vampire family.

Good Morning Call

Faces of nao

A new Japanese High School Drama (based on the Manga graphic novel) on Netflix (by Netflix). True, it has lots of what makes a good drama. Naive girl meets guy (Uehara)with too much pride, yet he's given popular status just by being the new guy a school (Oh, he does have a sad past that many might pity) But this go around..both are scammed when they find the perfect apartment and end up living together.

Actually, Haruka Fukuhara as Nao steals the show. And one might wonder if the second lead (Daichi) might be a stalker. 17 episode installments now on Netflix.

It is cute, but not too cute.

Nonfiction Tuesday - Being Jazz

Jazz Jennings is one of the youngest and most prominent voices in the national discussion about gender identity. At the age of five, Jazz transitioned to life as a girl, with the support of her parents. A year later, her parents allowed her to share her incredible journey in her first Barbara Walters interview, aired at a time when the public was much less knowledgeable or accepting of the transgender community. This groundbreaking interview was followed over the years by other high-profile interviews, a documentary, the launch of her YouTube channel, a picture book, and her own reality TV series “I Am Jazz” making her one of the most recognizable activists for transgender teens, children, and adults.

In her remarkable memoir, Jazz reflects on these very public experiences and how they have helped shape the mainstream attitude toward the transgender community. But it hasn’t all been easy. Jazz has faced many challenges, bullying, discrimination, and rejection, yet she perseveres as she educates others about her life as a transgender teen. Through it all, her family has been beside her on this journey, standing together against those who don’t understand the true meaning of tolerance and unconditional love. Now Jazz must learn to navigate the physical, social, and emotional upheavals of adolescence—particularly high school—complicated by the unique challenges of being a transgender teen. Making the journey from girl to woman is never easy—especially when you began your life in a boy’s body.

Jazz is quite the trailblazer and with the support of her parents has really made her story even more important with their help. Its a very inspiring memoir. This might be one of your favorite nonfiction reads of summer.

lim ju hwan

I can't think of an American actor who can do so much with any character he's given with such little to go on. His range is so unique. He can go from happy go lucky..to a psycho in seconds. OH MY GHOSTESS is great and he's one of the reasons to watch it.

A date with a book

#DatewithaBook

Big Little Lies follows three women, each at a crossroads:

Madeline is a force to be reckoned with. She’s funny and biting, passionate, she remembers everything and forgives no one. Her ex-husband and his yogi new wife have moved into her beloved beachside community, and their daughter is in the same kindergarten class as Madeline’s youngest (how is this possible?). And to top it all off, Madeline’s teenage daughter seems to be choosing Madeline’s ex-husband over her. (How. Is. This. Possible?).

Celeste is the kind of beautiful woman who makes the world stop and stare. While she may seem a bit flustered at times, who wouldn’t be, with those rambunctious twin boys? Now that the boys are starting school, Celeste and her husband look set to become the king and queen of the school parent body. But royalty often comes at a price, and Celeste is grappling with how much more she is willing to pay.

New to town, single mom Jane is so young that another mother mistakes her for the nanny. Jane is sad beyond her years and harbors secret doubts about her son. But why? While Madeline and Celeste soon take Jane under their wing, none of them realizes how the arrival of Jane and her inscrutable little boy will affect them all.

Big Little Lies is a brilliant take on ex-husbands and second wives, mothers and daughters, schoolyard scandal, and the dangerous little lies we tell ourselves just to survive.

Tarzan

OK, so Alex S. is a little stoic and we never actually see him do the Tarzan yell..still the  movie is a popcorn movie to keep you on your toes. And its more than finding a man who could talk to the animals. It's got a rich history about Africa too. And the film does move. Yes, it was much much better than I even anticipated. A nice summer treat.

Library Love

some of my favorite adventures!

Some books on nonfiction subjects.
Sewing Happiness: Twenty simple sewing projects are tied together with a thread of memoir that tells the story of how sewing brought Sanae Ishida profound happiness. Each seasonal project, specially designed to promote health, creativity, relationships and more, provides gentle inspiration to live your best life.

When Ishida was diagnosed with a chronic illness and lost her corporate job, she thought her life was over. But these challenges ended up being the best thing that ever happened to her because they forced her to take stock of her life and focus on the important things, and enabled her to rediscover sewing--her true passion.

Inspired to succeed at just one thing, Ishida vowed to sew all of her daughter's clothes (and most of her own) for one year. Sewing Happiness includes 20 projects plus variations (including Japanese-inspired home goods and children’s and women’s clothing) organized by season, and stitched together with Ishida’s charming personal story.

Little House Living: From the immensely popular blogger behind Little House Living comes a motivational homemaking book, inspired by Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House on the Prairie, featuring creative, fun ways to live your life simply and frugally—perfect for fans of Ree Drummond’s The Pioneer Woman.

Shortly after getting married, Merissa Alink and her husband found themselves with nothing in their pantry but a package of spaghetti and some breadcrumbs. Their life had hit rock bottom, and it was only after a touching act of charity that they were able to get on their feet again.

Inspired by this gesture of kindness as well as the beloved Little House on the Prairie books, Merissa found that a life of self-sufficiency and simplicity could be charming and blissful. She set out to live an entirely made-from-scratch life, the “Little House” way, and as a result, she slashed her household budget by nearly half—saving thousands of dollars a year. She started to write about homesteading, homemaking, and cooking from scratch, and over the next few years developed the recipes and DIY projects that would one day become part of her now beloved website, LittleHouseLiving.com.

As whole foods became staples of the family diet, Merissa realized the dangers of putting overly processed ingredients not only into our bodies, but on or near them as well. In addition to countless delicious, home-cooked meals, she developed natural, easy-to-make recipes for everything from sunscreen to taco seasoning mix, lemon poppy hand scrub to furniture polish. With their simple ingredients, these recipes are allergen friendly and many are gluten-free.

With over 130 practical, simple DIY recipes, gorgeous full-color photographs, and Merissa’s trademark charm in personal stories and tips, Little House Living is the epitome of heartland warmth and prairie inspiration.
