Off The Map - tv review

Some of us need a vacation from the cold and perhaps ABC's Off the Map will do it for you. It stars that wonderful French-Canadian actress from Wonder Falls, Caroline Dhavernas. If Mami Gummer looks familiar to you..well, she is Meryl Streeps daughter. Also in the cast is Zach Gilford from Friday Night Lights. These three young doctors have come to the jungle to make a new start. The thing is..what jungle..where?

From what I gather...Spanish seems to be the native tongue. Thanks to endearing young actor Jonathan Castellanso, we see the charm of the island (personally, I just thought it the back lot at LOST). Jonathan stared in Southlands. Then there is New Zealand's beautiful Martin Henderson as the residence hunky doctor who will mentor these three along with Valerie Cruz and Jason George.

Last week was the first adventure of the story. There are breath taking landscapes, and possibly some loco locals, but then maybe its these young doctors who are a little crazy. Its hard to say if I find this TV show completely fasinating yet. The main doctors are seen knocking out victims as if that were enough sedatives. And I'm not quite sold on the energies in coconuts.

But its great to see a wonderful cast who are more than just beautiful people. I still think it'll be the writing that makes or breaks this show. If they keep this character driven, I'll be coming back for more to see how Dhavernas' Lily handles herself. I found Gummer and Gilford's characters already a bit whiny.

  6. Hmm... The premise for it sounds kind of soap opera-ish to me... but perhaps I'll give it a chance!
