The art of Getting by - movie review

Perhaps you've met someone like George (Freddie Highmore) before.  Or if you did, you neglected to get to know him because he's the type not to exactly put himself out there. You see, he's an artist who doesn't exactly like to paint because he just hasn't found anything to paint.

Cast with director.

And then he met Sally(Emma Roberts). Not exactly WHEN HARRY MET SALLY. But this movie has a great back drop. NEW YORK CITY. The writer and director Gavin Weissen has been waiting a very long time to show everyone, his city. And it shows... with lovely cinematography, everywhere of the city.

This so-called romance just wouldn't be complete without a 'love-triangle' of some sort. While George is still struggling to figure himself out, he meets ,up and coming artist, Dustin (Michael Angarano), who is either trying to give George advice on getting the girl..or making a move on George's girl.

Such a wonderful cast. Great performances, especially as Alicia Silverstone as his English teacher. Blair Underwood plays the principal. This is a movie that shows... yes..there are people out there that care about you. His teachers and family are afraid George will quit on life.

The movie also shows the emotions of a sensitive young man. Honestly, I'm not sure I'd want anyone else to be George but Freddie Highmore. He's that good.

I adore this film. Perhaps it has to do that his George is much more stronger than he even knows. In spite of things falling a part at home and changes ahead, here you have a character who definitely might wait til his last chance..on anything.

It was great to see Sasha Spielberg in this film as well. She could be a long lost sister to Lea Michelle (from Glee). Also Twilight's Elisabeth Reaser plays Sally's mother (who is the true free spirit in the movie).

Although, you might find the movie too subtle for all those FX movies out there this summer. This truly is  a needed movie for those who want to watch ordinary people find something extraordinary in their lives.

STORYLINE: George, a lonely and fatalistic teen who's made it all the way to his senior year without ever having done a real day of work, is befriended by Sally, a popular but complicated girl who recognizes in him a kindred spirit.
