Midnight in Paris - movie review

Woody with his cast in Midnight in Paris

If you love your Woody Allan films, you won't want to miss this one. If you are an Owen Wilson fan who always wondered what it would be like for him to be Woody Allan..well, here is your chance. Even so, Owen shines as Owen always shines in a movie with his slow words and silly natural grin. So its hard to decided just how influential Woody was on making this character.

Also you get to visit lovely Paris in this movie. Its dizzy with its rain, gardens and historical sights. However, Woody lets you get lost in the city of love or lights or perhaps a parallel universe.

Marion Cotillard the love he finds after midnight

Owen's character Gil is a Hollywood screenwriter engaged to the lovely Inez (Rachel McAdams). Yet this has to be the coldest hearted character I've ever seen  Rachel McAdams play. Nothing really suits her. She is rather materialistic. She wishes Gil would make better..moneymaking decisions. She doesn't even like the novel he's writinging. Its down right silly to her. And he's getting the impression that her parents and friends don't like him, either. So one night, he finds himself on a walk all alone. Its there in the shadows of Paris he finds a whole new life after midnight.

Alison Pill and Tom Hiddleston (he was the bad brother in Thor)

The movie if full of nostalgic times. Remembering the times of the golden age, just to find it might be different to everyone.

Some fun performances by Michael Sheen who's no relation to the notorious Charlie Sheen. As well as Alison Pill in her most unusual performance ever. Its a fun film where you might be the last know where its going, but its great getting there.

STORYLINE: Gil and Inez travel to Paris as a tag-along vacation on her parents' business trip. Gil is a struggling writer and falls in love with the city and thinks they should move there after they get married, but Inez does not share his romantic notions of the city or the idea that the 1920s was the golden age. When Inez goes off dancing with her friends, Gil takes a walk at midnight and discovers what could be the ultimate source of inspiration for writing. Gil's daily walks at midnight in Paris could take him closer to the heart of the city but further from the woman he's about to marry.

PG-13
