Rise of Planet of the Apes - movie review

OK, so I'm not that familiar with the classic Planet of the Apes in 1968. And the preview freaked me out a bit. Especially, when the lead ape Caesar is watching James Franco and his significant other sleep. Yet the film grows on you. Finding out how James Franco's character is trying to help save  his father by developing new drugs, and how he saves Caesar as a baby. I very much love how the story develops between Caesar, Will (Franco) and Charles(Lithgow). How Will meets Caroline (Freida Pinto) a doctor from the zoo. How Caesar helps forge their relationship. Andy Serkis certainly develops Caesar's character. I adored his expressions. At times he made me feel he was the Christian Bale of the ape world.

But then there is the dark side to... as the story rides along. From the get go at the corporation that Will the scientist works for. How it all goes wrong. How to think it won't happen again, but then it turns worse once more when Will thinks he can find a break through with the drug he's working on to help Alzheimer's. There are so many ethical questions that pop up as you watch this. Its so present day. How people have chimps for pets. But Caesar is no pet. He's born with smarts that isn't as ordinary as it might seem.
Just the way I thought Draco might be on summer vacation.

I'm so happy to see Tom Felton in this movie as Dodge. Finally, a character that bites back. If only he could have gotten more scenes, but this wasn't just his movie, yet he certainly helps the movie develop. It was great to see Brian Cox in this movie, as well. Of course, Tyler Labine is perfect in his part, too. The cinematography played a great part in the movie to make the most of the action of the characters.

Really, its quite a summer thriller. I enjoyed the special effects. They did make the apes quite real. I'm happy they gave them such character, as well. As a pre-sequel its believable. It just might be my favorite movie this summer. Just remember its infectious on many levels. I'm adoring James Franco, once again.

STORYLINE: An origin story set in present day San Francisco, where man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

p.s..don't leave right after the final line of the show.
