Our Ediot Brother

As one friend put it (when I asked if they'd go with me to see this movie) "Its a Paul Rudd movie." That said, I had to wonder, what does that mean..making feel that I was an idiot for even thinking of going to this movie.

I was in for a good time in spite of what I was told from the previews. Seriously, the worst preview ever.

This film has such a wonderful cast. Its a quirky little film that made me think... distant neighbors from AWAY WE GO. This film is set in New York, but not exactly in the city. It has perhaps a more 'Woodstock' happy go lucky hippie feel to it. Especially, Paul Rudd's Ned..who is an organic farmer doing his own thing with his girlfriend(Kathryn Hahn who puts an entire new meaning to dreds) and best pal in the world, Willie Nelson which so happens to be his dog.

Seriously, Ned is just someone ready to hear you out. OK, possibly had one too many doobies in his time, but still very down to earth, yet ends up in prison for a few month when he sales some grass to a uniformed cop.

Hugh Dancy is unrecognizable in this film..but so sexy and quite the artist who makes a move on Zoey's character.

Such an adorable couple!

Of course, his sisters think he's an idiot. But then again, they have their own quirky lives. Zoey Deschanel is a performance artist, Natalie, that never quite performs. She's got a lot on her mind with her girlfriend, played by Rashida Jones. His other sister Elisabeth Banks is a hard nose reporter who always gets stuck with fluff pieces. She's always leaning on her best friend neighbor Adam Scott to help her out. And then his other sister, Emily Moritmer who's married to a documentary maker (Steve Coogan) who has odd ways of film making. The couple, who are obsessed getting their son River into a good school, never let him have any fun.

Well, Ned to the rescue. Since his girlfriend won't let him back into her life..she's hooked up with wonderfully mellow Billy (T.J. Miller), nor Willie Nelson's, Ned's been put upon his sisters. They can't quite handle him. As you get into the story, you have to wonder who the real idiots are. Definitely, not Ned.

Its a sweet quirk little film. I'm glad I didn't avoid it after all. Paul Rudd is delightful in the film. Some fun moments through the film. There is nothing like a story about a man and his dog and a crazy family. I liked the moments where his Mom played by Shirley Knight always has a glass wine with her when she's talking to Ned.

STORYLINE: Ned lived a happy life growing organic vegetables on a farm with his hippie girlfriend and his dog named Willie Nelson, but an unadvised incident with marijuana at a farmer's market lands him in jail. When he gets out of jail, he is off to live with his sisters. While Ned is still happy, his sisters are much less so after he manages to screw up one marriage, one job opportunity, one budding relationship and one domestic partnership. He sees those problems as breakdowns in communication, but his sisters see him as an idiot.
