Rabbit Hole - dvd review

This is a serious film, and there is no other as quite as serious as Nicole Kidman to play the grieving mother in this movie.

Based on a play by David Lindsay-Abaire. This is the story of a young couple who loses their little boy, Danny in an accident. Its a quiet film, actually. Yet it very carefully shows how each are coping with the loss.

I have to say this is my favorite Aaron Eckhart film to date. He's the father who still feels his son's presences while Nicole Kidman's Becca is afraid she can't feel enough for her lost. And she is lost in this world. She can't bare to listen to her mother, Diane Weist compare her own loss (Becca's brother who died of a drug overdose to Danny.) While Echart's Howie needs to go to a grief counseling group where he meets Sandra Oh.

Its a very complex film, and the only thing that Becca can find to ease her pain is to strike up a friendship with the boy who is a great part of her son's accident. Miles Teller as Jason is rather ordinary (which makes him so great to watch), but as you see how he copes with his own guilt and regret is through art. He skips school to hide at the library to work on his graphic novel, RABBIT HOLE.

Its an unlikely pairing, yet a sweet friendship. It really is a powerful movie, yet quiet. Its a tale of how one awful thing can tear a couple a part, yet love can bring them together, again. Its quite an emotional movie. November is a great time to watch this film.

STORYLINE: Becca and Howie Corbett are a happily married couple whose perfect world is forever changed when their young son, Danny, is killed by a car. Becca, an executive-turned-stay-at-home mother, tries to redefine her existence in a surreal landscape of well-meaning family and friends. Painful, poignant, and often funny, Becca's experiences lead her to find solace in a mysterious relationship with a troubled young comic-book artist, Jason - the teenage driver of the car that killed Danny. Becca's fixation with Jason pulls her away from memories of Danny, while Howie immerses himself in the past, seeking refuge in outsiders who offer him something Becca is unable to give. The Corbetts, both adrift, make surprising and dangerous choices as they choose a path that will determine their fate.
