Jared Mees and the Grown Children

“I was having trouble describing the music of JARED MEES & THE GROWN CHILDREN. When it seems like an indie-pop hybrid, it turns folk. And then the string section comes in. It’s all very confusing," says AZARIA PODPLESKY. " The creation of Portland’s own jack-of-all-trades Jared Mees, the Grown Children features a constantly changing line up of his friends and fellow musicians who are, as the band’s blog puts it, “consistently sexy and talented.” Podplesky goes on to say, "Spontaneous, infrequent rehearsals are also a big part of this folk/pop/rock band, so what happens during their live show is anybody’s guess.”

I have to admit I fell in love with their quirky little ditty SHAKE, the first time I heard it. And I've been wanting to listen to more of their playlist since.

I am trying to shake all these blues away, only good thoughts can stay. I am trying to burn down this lonely forest, with a single chorus sung in a minor key. I am trying to love what I’ll have to leave, & I’m trying not to grieve prematurely. -shake

The group is from Oregon. Their latest CD that came out last May is ONLY GOOD THOUGHTS CAN STAY. Mees has generous help from Megan Spear, and Javier Madrigal. He's described their music as jangly and chorus half in yang. Its definitely a group that is their to have fun, and possibly, they can sing your troubles away.
