Hunger Games

Oh..the excitement has been building for months now. And its finally here! Hunger Games the movie.

You've read the book. The whole series in fact. But will this movie pay off? Of course, I'd wanted a complete different cast than this for the movie, but this one just might pay off. Josh Hutchinson has shown he's a supporting player over the years. Jennifer Lawerence is quite the chameleon in various roles from X-Men to the Winter's Bone. She is a fighter, so to speak, taking off on her own. She is the perfect Katnis, after all. I'm glad she got the part in the lead role. She certainly took on the role with calm, cool and earnestness. Liam Hemsworth is showing his rugged side at Gale. For the moments they are together, I really thought they were divine.

Keep your feet ready,
Heartbeat steady.
Keep your eyes open,
Keep your aim locked.
The night goes dark,
Keep your eyes open.

Taylor Swift

Of course, the film is being compared to the Twilight saga, but I really don't know why we even have to go there. While Twilight is a look at the paranormal that is the latest trends in so many books, Hunger Games is a look to the future and what voyeurs we are when it comes to reality TV. One deals with our inner passions while the latter exposes how much pain one can go through to really survive. The downfall possibly of this movie is watching the violence. Yet, I felt the direction of the movie and writers did this part perfectly in the movie.

It was definitely a moving scene between Katnis and Rue (Amandla Stenberg). I was definitely waiting for that part of the movie, and it won me over! Also the thought of what one will do in order to survive. Of course, just as the story unfolds, how much is real and not real in the love story between Katnis and Peeta? I thought Josh Hutcherson's Peeta played his part well, feeling that Katinis was always the winner in his book.

In all honesty, I'd wanted Kyle Gallner to play Peeta, but I'm glad Hutcherson definitely showed his vulnerable side. However, many might feel he's the weakest when it comes to character development.

Also, there is the idea that Katnis and Gale were just too clean and not starving enough from District 12. Of course, there are moments in the book you'll yearn for ..that you might not get on screen. Nor get to pick up on the character development of the rest of the tribune. Unfortunately, this happens a lot when you adapt a book to the screen.

Alex Ludwig as Cato was not in the film enough.

Still, there is a lot to enjoy about the movie.

This is a two and 1/2 hour movie, but it kept moving and the suspense builds. It was also great with the "reality" of the film as well. The commentators as well as those who mentor them.

STORYLINE: In a not-too-distant future, North America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem. The 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss' young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart Peeta, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives.-written by Suzanne Collins
