Fiction Tuesday-Amanda Hocking

Amanda Hocking is one busy girl. She might not even know where it started herself. But this is one indie author that publishers are taking seriously. As she says, she writes a lot, and she gives readers what they want.

  • Jack: I've never stopped loving you. Never. And I was wrong, you're all I need to be happy, you're all I ever need..
  • Alice: I'm not all you need and I don't even want to be. I just want to love you, for the rest of my life, and as long as you let me do that, we'll be okay..(Wisdom, Book 4 of My Blood Approves)

I  picture Allie Grant as Alice always questioning Jack and his ways.

You can get a few of her books free on Kindle. Perhaps that is how she hooks the reader with books like MY BLOOD APPROVES which might have a lot of similarities of TWILIGHT, yet not. Her series revolves around a girl who isn't all that smitten with a vampire, and he kind of likes that. Yet, she has it bad for his brother. Possibly a sorted triangle gone bad. There is also her zombie series, Hollowland. Very apocalyptic.

This is the way the world ends - not with a bang or a whimper, but with zombies breaking down the back door.”  -Hollowland

Of course, it was St. Martins that really took notice. They reissued her Trylle series about Wendy who finds out she's not at all who she thought she was. Yes, Hocking is making a mint in paranormal young adult books. What makes it work? Her main characters are relate-able, cautious. They aren't perfect, and they take you into a world that you want to know about and understand. Yet, on the downside, this can take some time. Getting anywhere in the book. Evidently, though the publisher do like the pacing. We might see the Trylle series in a movie soon.

Her next series is Watersong. Wake is the first in the series that is out this August.

Beautiful. Fearless. Dangerous. They're the kind of girls you envy; the kind of girls you want to hate. Strangers in town for the summer, Penn, Thea, and Lexi have caught everyone's attention, including the eye of practical Harper. But it's her sister, Gemma, they've chosen to be part of their group.
Sixteen-year-old Gemma seems to have it all - carefree, pretty, and falling in love with the boy next door. But her greatest passion has always been the water. She craves late night swims under the stars, where she can be alone yet belong to the sea. Lately she's had company. Penn, Thea, and Lexi spend their nights dancing, singing, and partying on the cove--and one night Gemma joins them. When she wakes up groggy on the beach the next morning, she knows something has changed.
Suddenly Gemma is stronger, faster, and more beautiful than ever. As she uncovers the truth about her new mythical powers, Gemma is forced to choose between staying with those she loves or entering a dark world brimming with unimaginable secrets.-book description
