The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Based on the book These Foolish Things by Deborah Moggach

WARNING : You don't have to be a Senior Citizen to enjoy this film.

Finding yourself on a budget this summer and need a little get-away? Well, here's the ticket.

This movie has a cast of seasoned British actors that make the most unique characters. Each one has a certain charm. I so enjoyed each one of their stories and how each went on their journey to this new destination in India.

Also Dev Patel as Sonny Kapoor made the most of this sweet movie, as well.

I’m gay. Well, really more in theory than in practice.
-Graham Dashwood, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

I was impressed with the storyline that Tom Wilkinson's Graham was given about finding lost love. Also Bill Nighy's Douglas was quite endearing as the positive loyal husband.

I have to say I loved Judi's wardrobe. I hope I can dress as amazing as her..some day.

Judi Dench's Evelyn was definitely someone many of us could relate to, as a new found traveler embracing what life has to offer.

  • Evelyn: Nothing here has worked out quite as I expected.
  • Muriel: Most things don't. But sometimes what happens instead is the good stuff.

Of course, Maggie Smith's Muriel is quite the surprise in the movie. It's fascinating how we associate the older crowd. Especially, Muriel who is a handful. She needs a hip replacement and has to go to India to get it done quickly, instead of a six month wait back in home. Its at the hotel she meets practically the shadow of a girl who's the maid. It was definitely a heartfelt story of the correlation between these two.

This movie definitely got to me in some parts. Lots of laughs, but tender moments, too. I loved the breath taking cinematography of the landscapes. Yet, it showed the crowded streets, the city's people. I'm definitely glad I got to this movie.

Everything will be alright in the end, and if it’s not alright, then it’s not the end.

STORYLINE: A group of British retirees decide to "outsource" their retirement to less expensive and seemingly exotic India. Enticed by advertisements for the newly restored Marigold Hotel, they arrive to find the palace a shell of its former self.
