The Loved Ones

Lets say this is a psycho drama horror comedy about a guy a bit like CARRIE. But in this case its a story about Brent (Xavier Samuel). And the bad girl in this film is Lola (Robin McLeavy).

Its an Australian film that was released there in 2010(possibly 2009).

The Loved Ones won the Cadillac People's Choice Award at TIFF's midnight screening. The movie has really given writer/director Sean Byrne a step up. Although, its indie horror at its best, the film is quite a blood soaker. So squeamish beware.

According to Bloody Disgusting, the film will be released in the following cities in the US beginning June1:
SAN FRANCISCO, CA
AUSTIN, TX
CHICAGO, IL
NEW YORK, NY
HOUSTON, TX
LOS ANGELES, CA

What makes it work is the fact the cast really worked with the director.

And of course, Xavier Samuel is delicious. Also Robin McLeavy watched MISERY quite a few times to get ready for her role of Lola.

STORYLINE: In order to avoid a ghostly figure in the road, high school senior Brent Mitchell wraps his car around a tree, killing his father. Constantly confronted by his mother's emotional collapse after the accident, Brent escapes into a marijuana fueled world of loud metal music to block the pain and guilt. Dejected and out of sorts, he has a shot at happiness with his girlfriend Holly, a grounded, caring girl with drop dead good looks, a dream date for the high school prom. But his plans are thwarted by a disturbing series of events that take place under a mirrored disco ball, involving pink satin, glitter, syringes, nails, power drills and a secret admirer. Brent has become the prom king at a macabre, sadistic event where he is the entertainment.
