Compliance

PREMISE: When a prank caller convinces a fast food restaurant manager to interrogate an innocent young employee, no-one is left unharmed. Based on true events.

On April 4th, 2004, Louise Ogborn went into work at the local McDonald’s in Mount Washington, Kentucky. Louise had no idea that this shift would change her life forever. -Compliance Film

This is a rather uncomfortable film for many. There has been a documentary on this subject. I even remember watching this segment on ABC's 20/20. It is a frightening idea that this has happened to people on the job.

What Might You Do When Persuaded by the Illusion of Authority?
The indie became notorious at Sundance this past January for expanding on real-life stories in which an anonymous caller impersonated police officers and talked business managers into strip-searching and violating employees. The instigating factor would be a reported infraction of the law, with the caller reasoning that the fastest way to deal with the situation was for the manager to do some of the work of the cops before officers were able to arrive. Inevitably, the caller would push the situation deep into scary territory, and those on the other end of the line would comply.
The real-life stories are chilling, in part because it is horrifying to consider that anyone would follow the instructions of someone who purports to be a law officer without attempting to verify the caller’s identity. Compliance seems to exploit that horrifying behavior quite well, and now you can get a glimpse of just how weird things get in the movie.-radoration

An absolutely intriguing film derived from truly puzzling subject matter.-doug

Compliance shows us just how far we’re willing to go in the name of following authority figures.-thefreestylelife

Hopefully, Dream Walker will get some recognition for this film.

When a police officer tells you to do something, you do it. Right?
Inspired by true events, Compliance tells the chilling story of just how far one might go to obey a figure of authority. This second feature from director Craig Zobel recounts this riveting nightmare in which the line between legality and reason is hauntingly blurred. The cast delivers startlingly authentic performances that make the appalling events unfolding onscreen all the more difficult to watch – but impossible to turn away from. Delving into the complex psychology of this real-life story, Compliance proves that sometimes truth really is stranger than fiction.

Why isn’t it easy to “just say no….”-Screenkid

This film won’t leave you feeling easy, in fact if it does you’re watching it wrong. It takes the Milgram experiment and multiplies it to an insanely inappropriate level. However, that’s the film’s intention, to get you talking, to analyze and examine the weaker parts of human nature. A fascinating experience indeed.-OperationFailure
