Perks of being a Wallflower

I was so afraid this movie would never get to our neck of the woods. Finally it did! And it was worth the wait. I'd read the book some time ago. And I'd love the book. I loved Patrick. Thankfully, Stephen Chbosky found a wonderful Patrick as well as a very sweet cast for his movie. It was truly an honor that the author of the book wrote the screenplay and directed the film, as well. And the soundtrack, oh so cool.

I'm also glad the film is made in the time frame the book was written. No cell phone. No social media. Just Charlie and his type-writer. Also a time when you put a zine together you actually used a stapler.

I'll say it now Logan Lerman did Charlie with such honesty. Emma Watson's Sam was rich with complex flaws. It was truly a moving movie. Don't even think of going off comparing it to 16 Candles or any of John Hughes films. No, this was strictly a Chbosky classic coming to life. Its a survivor's story. Its coming to terms with how things are. How we can somehow go on.

I went to watch The Perks of Being a Wallflower today, and I still don’t have the words to explain how good it was. It was perfect. So were Logan and Emma and Ezra, they were perfectly suited to their characters.-W
I just wish someone would just tell me what’s wrong with me. Just tell me how to be different in a way that makes sense. To make this all go away. And disappear.”-Charlie

I truly loved this film. And hope everyone else will find something to enjoy about it too. And it was great seeing Ezra Miller in something where he could be so happy. He truly has a wonderful range of acting skills. Just as much as Lerman can be that awkward fellow, lost in the sea of angst teenagers.

Charlie is such an awkward turtleduck, and his honesty is kind of endearing although it can prove to be rather unfortunate sometimes… Seriously, why is Logan getting so little credit? Oh god, Ezra. No wonder Stephen chose him, this guy is brilliant! Especially during the Rocky Horror Picture Show, any workshop scenes and the cafeteria one. Also, Mae Whitman as Mary Elizabeth was quite good too, though she didn’t really get that much screenplay. Speaking of Mary Elizabeth, I’m so glad to see at least one movie that actually handled love triangles well (Guess what show I’m looking at…) Seeing Charlie so lonely was depressing though… The last parts are rather heartbreaking. Even the whole room seemed to stop breathing at that part….-M

Nina Dobrev as Charlie's sister Candace was perfect.

I think its a film you'll want to see with friends. You just might want to call those friends you haven't talked to for a while and see how life is going. This is also a film that shows you how bullying is the backdrop of our everyday lives at school. Possibly, it'll make you pay attention of all the signs we somehow grow numb to, over time.

So, tomorrow, I’m leaving. And I’m not going to let that
happen again with anyone else. I’m going to do what I want to
do. I’m going to be who I really am. And I’m going to figure out
what that is. But right now I’m here with you. And I want to
know where you are, what you need, and what you want to do.

Its one of those films I'll want in my own DVD collection.

STORYLINE: Based on the novel written by Stephen Chbosky, this is about 15-year-old Charlie (Logan Lerman), an endearing and naive outsider, coping with first love (Emma Watson), the suicide of his best friend, and his own mental illness while struggling to find a group of people with whom he belongs. The introvert freshman is taken under the wings of two seniors, Sam and Patrick, who welcome him to the real world.
