Little Birds

Little Birds is a gritty tale and yet so real to life. The director of this indie film certainly took us on a journey of two teenage girls who definitely need this time to see what they are really made of, even if they feel their lives are quite trite.

You only get a little time between a cut and knowing how deep it is. If it’s only going to be nicked, or disfigured forever. All you can do is try to stretch out that moment for as long as you possibly can. ‘Cause once you know, there ain’t no coming back.
Little Birds

Juno Temple is the star of the movie, yet the real star is Kay Panabaker as Alison who is always there for Lily in every journey they take. She is certainly the stronger of the two, even if she doesn't know it.
Lilly and Alison live in a world without cell phones. In spite of bleak times and feeling the world is so slow, they still have their imaginations, and each other.
Lily is a cutter. She finds beauty in her suicidal thoughts. And then she meets Jesse (Kyle Gallner) who's a runaway. His character is complex and yet they are both smittened with each other when they first meet. Definitely, the kind of romance everyone hopes to experience.
This has to be one of my favorite performances of Kyle's. It was truly genuine. His Jesse is just as fascinated by Lily as she is with him on their first chance meeting.
I loved that Jesse missed his house. His conversation about his cat made me find his character even more real. The story of the film is relate-able. Even with the innocent moments still comes a certain darkness that neither can really prepare for.

  1. This sounds a bit like The Virgin Suicides - eerie yet beautiful at the very same time. :)
