Jack and Diane

There was a lot I did like about this indie film. Even so, I felt maybe they tried too hard. Not the actors. These two were great, but the artsy direction, perhaps.

I mean, I think I would have enjoyed the film more with out the 'werewolf' theme. I guess that's what that was.

Some have put down Riley Keough for her role as Jack. Although, I thought she did it perfectly. She was urban, doing her own thing, and oh so courageously awkward.

This is an awkward story. Although, I though it could have been a little more playful and fun. Juno Temple's Diane in more than a tad dingy. Actually, I would have liked it better if she'd just been dingy. But no, she had to roam off, find bathrooms to throw up blood in. That kind of thing.

It would have been a sweeter story if these two could have just found themselves and had an extra-ordinary day together. Of course, this could have meant throwing water balloons at a policeman and prank phone calls. (Sorry, I just read One Bloody Thing After Another by Joey Comeau and while I was reading it I was wishing it might have a little more Jack and Diane).

Still its one of those movies that tries to go everywhere. And perhaps Jack really is the stronger of the two. Although, I wish we'd felt more passion in her character to make Diane see that no one was going to love her quite the way Jack did.  Yes, we know Jack cares. Jack thinks someone is making horrible videos of Diane, thanks to her friend played by Dane Dehaan. But its Diane's twin.

Still there are Diane's bloody nose problem (or just blood and bloody things). And Diane's confusing looks and Jack not being part of her plan. She's to go off to school in Paris in fashion. As the story plays out, we know who loved who more. And thanks to sharing a mixed tape..Maybe..just maybe Diane can figure out what love is.

ONLY YOU song by the Flying Pickets  was in this film and that alone was happiness to hear.
