Divergent

After going to see Divergent, one of my male friends made a comment that made me want to cheer.
“What was strange, in a good way, was that the main girl was very ordinary looking. Pretty, but it’s more of a natural beauty than makeup.”
I was so happy. I think Shailene is beautiful and he was in no way saying that she was ugly. He was making the observation that so many people need to understand, is that to be a heroine, you don’t have to look perfect, look a certain way, have flawless skin because THAT IS UNREALISTIC!!
In a society where we are so materialistic and feel the need to cover ourselves in makeup, we need the ‘ordinary looking’ heroines who are still very much beautiful in a natural way to be the role models.-ichosethefandomlife

It looks as if this is a hit at the box office, although, most of my friends have been put off about seeing it. They don't exactly like the casting. Particularly, Shailene Woodley who seems to be this year's IT GIRL.

Still, in the shadow of the Hunger Games comes a story of a girl with complex virtues in a rather uncertain future. This was definitely a movie for a strong female lead and I thought Woodley got the job done. Also Ashley Judd plays her mother and I thought that was wonderful.

The casting was really spot on. Still, to have Ansel Elgort play her brother in this movie and then to play Augustus in The Fault of our Stars with Shailene is a little strange. Add Miles Teller  as the bully who played with Woodley in the critically acclaimed The Spectacular Now and its like, hey my friends and I like to make movies together. Of course, as a movie goer, you know actors can play different characters.

The film definitely has lots of action in it. After all, this divergent has to get in good with the so called protectors of their factions. And Theo James definitely delivers as the instructor who has been a lone divergent ..until now.

Kate Wenslat plays the villain with such precision. Perhaps politically correct, it still possesses a certain darkness. I found the supporting cast really remarkable. Especially, Jai Courtney as Eric.

Oh, if you need a ride for a movie, then this might be what you need.
So glad to see Zoe Kravitz in this film!

STORYLINE: Set in a futuristic dystopia where society is divided into five factions that each represent a different virtue, teenagers have to decide if they want to stay in their faction or switch to another - for the rest of their lives. Tris Prior makes a choice that surprises everyone. Then Tris and her fellow faction-members have to live through a highly competitive initiation process to live out the choice they have made. They must undergo extreme physical and intense psychological tests, that transform them all. But Tris has a secret that she is Divergent, which means she doesn't fit into any one group. If anyone knew, it would mean a certain death. As she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, this secret might help her save the people she loves... or it might destroy her.
