Fiction Tuesday - From Book To Film

From Book to Movie

Every war has turning points and every person too.”

Fifteen-year-old Daisy(Saoirse Ronan) is sent from Manhattan to England to visit her aunt and cousins she’s never met: three boys near her age, and their little sister. Her aunt goes away on business soon after Daisy arrives. The next day bombs go off as London is attacked and occupied by an unnamed enemy.

As power fails, and systems fail, the farm becomes more isolated. Despite the war, it’s a kind of Eden, with no adults in charge and no rules, a place where Daisy’s uncanny bond with her cousins grows into something rare and extraordinary. But the war is everywhere, and Daisy and her cousins must lead each other into a world that is unknown in the scariest, most elemental way.

A riveting and astonishing story.

THE MOVIE: An American girl, sent to the English countryside to stay with relatives, finds love and purpose while fighting for her survival as war envelops the world around her.

Edmond (George MacKay) is the 17 year old guy next door and he becomes the anchor that Daisy needs to survive. She's never had faith in anything since she believes she's cursed because her mother died when she gave birth to Daisy.

Edmond is amazing with animals and is a survivor by nature, who in fact loves nature.

Daisy is an old soul at 15 with her mantra of getting through the day with all her rules and what and what not to eat which leaves her rather set in her ways. Until she meets Edmond.

Its an extraordinary tale during war. I love how she finds away to embrace life in the hardest times. She doesn't give up.

Of course, this movie and book is a mystery as to who England is at war with and did a nuclear bomb really hit? There is a sense of paranoia that sets in.

Who is really the foe? And how long does a war really last? The book and the movie will give you a lot to talk about.
