The Quiet Ones

SAD FACT: Filmed in 2012, it sat unreleased until 2014.

This just might not be everybody's movie. Still, you've got an amazing cast and a unique story. Although, it might be one to wait for on DVD.

The Quiet Ones is the latest offering from resurrected horror studios Hammer Films. After the mixed fortunes of The Resident, Wake Wood, Let Me In and The Woman in Black, the studio that was once the spearhead of Great British horror lets rip with a chilling tale, purportedly based on truth, about a psychiatric patient's apparent supernatural abilities.

University professor Joseph Coupland (Jared Harris) and his research students, Krissi (Erin Richards) and Harry (Rory Fleck-Byrne), study Jane Harper (Olivia Cooke) through a slot in a locked door as, alone in her room, she appears able to summon the dead. While Jane torments herself and suffers at the hands of an apparent poltergeist, Coupland and his team endeavour to explain every occurrence with reason and logic. He recruits a young filmmaker, Brian (Sam Claflin), to document the experiment but Brian falls for Jane and her behavior becomes ever more extreme. But everything can be explained with science. Can't it?-the squiss

The acting was disturbingly good, the scenery nice and sparse, the dialogue hilarious at times, but the plot didn’t just wander - it went to the store, the post office, the mall, and took the long way home for a nice drive. -Flowered Angel

And what if the demons we fear lay within our very selves?

This is the first movie in a long time I seriously considered leaving because it was just so fucking slow. It drags several times for very long intervals that never build to anything.
With a few fake out jump scares, the tension doesn’t build despite having a premise where it should. We view a clinically crazed/possessed/telekinetic girl through a small window and while it does eventually pay off, it feels like a wasted idea.
Also- every character in this movie is a goddamn asshole. Seriously. They spend a good portion of the movie psychologically torturing a young woman(played by the good but not great Olivia Cooke) and seeming to enjoy it. They keep saying it’s for science(which justifies everything apparently) but the cast, especially the token couple. The lone ‘good guy’ is a Christian camera guy who apparently falls in love with Cooke, but he still lets everything happen. -kirby

STORYLINE: A university professor and a team of students conduct an experiment on a young woman, uncovering terrifyingly dark, unexpected forces in the process.
