Big Eyes

Big Eyes

Storyline: A drama about the awakening of the painter Margaret Keane, her phenomenal success in the 1950s, and the subsequent legal difficulties she had with her husband, who claimed credit for her works in the 1960s.

Amy Adams plays the artistic Margaret Keane. She lives in a world of the 50's where a woman can't make it all on her own in the art world, but she had a need to paint those lost children with the BIG EYES.

Her character explains in the movie that she was deaf once after an operation as a child and those were the sort of lost eyes she felt trying to figure out the world. Truly Amy Adams plays the down to earth artist on her own with her daughter Jane who is the basis of her art subject.

Soon she meets Christoph Waltz who is quite a charmer as Walter Keane. Oh, he is a complicated man who's just an artist on the side. Of course, he has a real job in real estate. And the true artist Keane is smitten, but its over the years she has to wonder just how fake he really is.

Tim Burton directs this little masterpiece. Naturally, the real Margaret smiled saying, she was the real director. Sure, the film might not be as whimsical as his usual fare. Still, I can see why he adored this artist the critics put down at the time. Truly, the real Walter did find a way to commercialize art. Who knows, she might have been the beginning of anime.
