Magic in the Moonlight

Oh..not just another Woody Allan movie. This is such a playful romantic comedy with the wonderful Colin Firth and Emma Stone. The movie is set in the South of France in the late 1920's. Firth's character is a magician who's out to OUT Spiritualist Sophie (Emma Stone). I loved the costuming...and Allan's characters, too. Of course, there always has to be a Woody Allan like character in the movie, but it isn't Firth nor Stone. A very enjoyable film, indeed!

I’d say he has a classic neurotic personality disorder. Brilliant parents who didn’t get along, closer to his aunt than his mother, obsessed with mortality, believes in nothing, finds life to have no meaning. Just a perfect depressive, with everything sublimated into his art, and he is quite an artist. He began as an escape artist. Interesting choice if anyone ever wanted to escape from reality. But, like Freud, he will not permit himself to be seduced by childish thoughts just because they’re more comforting. Very unhappy man. I like him.
