So this is a Netflix Original Series which means it is available legally on Netflix and that’s it. Although to be honest, they’d be fools if they didn’t give this a dvd release, people were complaining that they took about a month to renew the show (yeah, that happened).
This show is based in the 80s and they made sure to prove that with its references (especially having the first edition of Dungeons and Dragons). This show is a sci-fi thriller and it is very important to understand the timeframe, there were no cell phones, there were no laptops, computers were not a thing, so radios were the closest thing you could get to cell phones.
Now my verdict for this show: it is incredible! I binge watched 7 of the episodes, it is worth the binge. This show is addicting because it makes you want to know everything that happens next. It begins with a kid (named Will) goes missing, the small town gets shaken up, but there is more than meets the eye.
The visuals are nicely done, the clothing meets the timeframe, the dark scenes still show you what is going on. And the special effects are incredible, whoever did them deserves a raise for the next season. My only problem with it, which is a high warning if you have epilepsy, there are flashing lights in it. It is kind of blinding and hard to focus on the screen while this is happening (at least for me), it is important for storyline reasons, but it is just a warning as the last one felt like it lasted five minutes although it was probably less, it is still something someone should keep track of.
The storyline is fluid and they wrote it really nicely, the actors do a very good job of carrying the story. To the point where some of them remind me of 80s actors which is impossible because this was filmed (at earliest) in 2015. Watching this made me wonder why Winona Ryder hasn’t acted more in recent years she still has the same talent she had in her early days on screen and deserves all the recognition in the world. She made her character come alive as so many of the actors did.
The suspense was terribly good, by terribly good I mean it drove me a little crazy wanting to go in there and as thought I was playing sims force them to …. well communicate. They also managed to keep suspense by not revealing anything until it was necessary, they take their time to try and make it creepy. Personally I do not find it creepy, but some parts could definitely make you jump depending.
This show made me feel like I went on an adventure and the worst part about the show is that I have to wait until 2017 for the next season. Highly recommended!
