Halloween movie review

Review// Crimson Peak

Review//
First, the film is so beautifully done, I have fallen in love with this film and its tale is just absolutely charming. The film is truly a gothic romance, Tom Hiddleston was right (I watched an interview with him on the Daily Show when the film first came out and he spoke about how it isn’t really a horror film and it’s actually a gothic romance, oh he was so right)

Plot//
Without revealing what happens, the plot is so fascinating, detailed, it just flows well and I love it. It is really hard to write the plot without going through what happens in it, so I’m just going to post the IMDB synopsis here (even though it isn’t a hundred percent how the plot works):

“In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds - and remembers.” -IMDB

This is a film that will divide people that usually like the same films due to its uniqueness. Some people do not like how slowly the film moves, others (like me) will feel that it just builds the anticipation. It is a really good suspense film and a really good thriller, but if you are expecting for it to be a horror film this probably isn’t a good film to go with. There are so many things in this film that make it different from the rest that can pull people apart within the plot itself, some people will like it, others will not. Some people will know how the film will end before it happens (I did) others won’t be sure. Some will find this film a love story, others will call it creepy.

Lighting//
The lighting is a huge thing for me in films, I like it to be accurate, but I want to see what was going on. This film accomplishes that, you can see everything you are supposed to. That’s a huge bonus, I cannot stand when I cannot see things that I should be able to.

Special Effects//
Creepy in a good way, the ghosts are a bit disturbing and that’s probably a good thing. They are very dark looking and if you saw one in real live, you’d have a meltdown, they are just very, very creepy and the filming was done in a way that elevates this. The colouring of the film is really gorgeous, the detailing is just so charming. Also everything has a bit of a gothic edge to it which brings me a lot of joy.

Costumes//
They are incredible, I just made this category to say that, they are absolutely beautiful

Basically I just recommend the film because of how beautiful it is, I could see people disagreeing with my opinions on the film, but I think it is worth watching regardless. Although I recommend this film to people who like suspense, dark romance, enchanting gothic details, with a little bit of horror and gore thrown into the mix. Or maybe if you are just looking for something different thrown into your own rotation. It’s a good film to watch if it fits in with your tastes (Or if you are not too picky about what type of film you watch)- Maggie
