Kaori & Ellie prt. 20

"What's going on?" Kaori's words stung Nico. She never called him, but Ellie wasn't picking up.

"Its kind of weird." He just said not wanting to make a big deal out of it. This Milo was a little strange.

At first Nico thought he might be some cool dude, now he frightened Nico. As if he had a right to be here and Nico should leave, but this was his place. He made his living at the Ramen shop.

"He says he's Ellie's husband." Nico could barely say.

"What?" Kaori shouted into the phone.

Nico only sighed. "Its just some dumb paper he has." Nico couldn't think it would hold up anywhere. "He says he married them."

"When?" Kaori told him she would know. Kaori knew everything about Ellie. "She never said a thing to me about it."

"I dunno." Nico shrugged, feeling he was farther away from Ellie, each minute Milo was here, even if she was in the next room.

All he could hear was Milo speaking English. He had no idea what he was even saying. Ellie was keeping quiet.

Finally, Milo left. Nico got off the phone.

"What did, you tell him?" Nico looked at Ellie, as if she better have set the record straight.

"He's just living on a dream." The piece of paper didn't mean much to her. "I guess he thinks its a new start." But she promised she wouldn't be a part of. "Still, I am a little worried."

"About what?" Nico winced.

"That it won't be any better here, than it was..where he left." She shrugged.

"Does he even know Korean?" Nico wondered.

"No, just a few words." And she'd taught him those. "Funny, I was hoping he would teach me more English." Actually, she'd forgot all about that being married thing. "I thought he was just being funny."

"You, like funny things." Nico shrugged. He pulled her up from the chair, ready to embrace her, but all he could do was to look into her dark eyes, trying to figure out the mystery of her.

"I really didn't meant to marry him." She assured him.

Nico nodded as if he understood. He bent his head so, to touch her forehead. He wanted to tell her they needed to do something about this matter.

"Just a few more paychecks and I can find my own place." She then told him. It was the last thing he expected to hear. Why did she think she always needed to get away from him.
