Kaori & Ellie prt. 26

Kaori & Ellie prt. 26

Ellie couldn't believe her eyes. What was Nico thinking?

She shoved the drugstore pregnancy test back in the white paper bag.

"Take it back." She was serious.

"Why?" He did look like a child to her, sometimes, even though, she knew he was only being the kind person he was. Still, she wanted to yell at him, but what good would that do?

"I..I get shots to take care of that." She finally admitted.

"What?" He looked at her horrified.

She looked away from him and nursed her bottom lip. Maybe, they needed to talk about this in more detail, but she didn't have the energy at the moment.

He then sighed. "Yugi said.."

Ellie shook her head, no. She sat down on Nico's bed. She wasn't sure if she'd ever think of it as "our bed" since most of her life she'd slept on a floor. She should be used to this mundane life of hers..yet it felt everything was catching up.

First, losing her best friend Kaori who was now out on her own, in marriage. Then the surprise of Milo and of course, the new teaching position at school. Weren't these things she wanted to happen?

What could she say? Maybe if she crawled into bed and slept for weeks on end, she might feel better. It was doubtful.

"I guess..I'm depressed." She festered a frown. She wasn't proud of it. But she was on her feet all day at school with little children who hated music and always wanted to be up to no good. Of course, she dealt with it..even if she wondered just how good she was at keeping an eye on an entire grade level of kids one hour at a time. It was a lot to keep up with, especially the paperwork, Then to turn around and serve people with a smile at the noodle shop. After all, she was Nico's free help.

"Perhaps, you should not come to the noodle shop in the evening. I can take care of it." Nico assured her.

"But people like your food. The shop is doing well. I want to help you." Ellie told him.

"Its OK, I'll get some one. You, just rest. And if that doesn't work... you have to get this checked out. I want you to be OK." He sat next to her and put his arm around her.

She felt his warmth. It was comforting. But she cried softly. After all, with no baby in the future, he was still the only family she had, and they weren't even blood related. Yes, she might really be lost in the world if it wasn't for Nico.
