I don't know about you and haunted houses but I've been to a few and usually, I don't think I get my money's worth. Of course, there are the real ones that stick with you.
Once upon a time, I was with the first boy I truly felt so caviler. We were on a mission one summer to fill up our playhouse in the hayloft of an old barn. Honestly, it's like an old movie now when I think of it. I dunno why his little sister wasn't with us at the time. She was usually there for every adventure. However, not that day when we went into an old house down an old dusty road.
I was amazed how much was still in tack. It was like the people just left what was there's. So much untouched, except a random mouse or two to investigate. We took a look around..and Randy who was never that type..just Ran thought there was nothing that significant to take.
"Let's check out the cellar!" He was always up for a challenge. Like being chased by bulls or plunging in the deep with him while a dam was being built. I dunno. I really did have such confidence in him. As if he'd save the day no matter what.
But it was dark down there. We went carefully down the steps. He'd brought a flashlight. He was handy at that sort of thing. There were jars of unopened jam maybe even some homemade wine. Just then we heard something..rattling.
"Holy shit!" I told him it was time to go. I felt as if I were on pins and needles. As we were leaving, we could see the rattlesnakes coming out of the cracks of the wall on the stairway. We were ready to jet out of there just to meet a barrel of a shotgun.
Yeap, our days of collecting other people's trash for our treasures were over.
wow interesting story, great for Halloween coming :)

ReplyDeleteOh, man! What a story. I hate haunted houses and snakes even more, so to read about rattlers coming out of the walls . . . well, it's a bit of a nightmare. It reminds me of that short-lived sitcom Bless This Mess with Lake Bell and Dax Shepard where there were snakes trapped in the walls of their house. And yes, they lived in Nebraska!!! Anyway, as always, you really know how to paint a picture. Cool collage; the lining of the coat is lovely and kind of ghostly. :)
