Will came home for Thanksgiving. He'd missed out the last couple of years. One due to COVID. He was even afraid this year but drove all the way down from Idaho to see his parents in Nebraska. Naturally, they all thought he'd changed. No girlfriend to speak of and he still had that job as a rural carrier for the Post Office.
"But you could do that here?" His mom thought he needed to be around for them.
"I'd hate it," he shrugged. He liked his town and the people. "I work with a good group." He smiled. That was something he couldn't say at other places he worked at. Seriously, the pay wasn't so bad and he'd learned he didn't really need the highest paying job. At thirty-something, he possibly might be settling.
"How in the world did you end up in Idaho, anyway?" His father asked.
"Oh, that.." It was something to think on. He wasn't so sure himself, anymore. He'd broken up with his long-time girlfriend since college. Back when he thought he might be the next best environmental scientist. Which Jenny said she adored, but ended up with somebody in the Air Force who took her to Japan (that was over five years ago now). Perhaps, Will had lost his calling. He'd gone off to visit his old friend Jake from middle school, but he'd moved to Alaska. Will ended up staying with Jake's mother Carol. It was a history he wasn't sure he was ready to share with his parents.
Interesting
ReplyDeleteVery interesting! I think he is in stress. He needs a friend? Hope he call his ex Girlfriend soon.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed meeting Will (who is, by the way, very handsome!). His story sounds lonely but soulful, like he's out there in Idaho delivering mail for the greater good. Or, as he admits himself, just settling. But sometimes that's for the greater good too. Either way, Jenny is missing out! :)
ReplyDeleteInteresante fragmento me gusto Will. Te mando un beso
