Fiction Tuesday - Small World

Marriage is hard but Sisterhood is harder

With all the Colleen Hoover movement going on in Women's fiction, let us not forget Zigman. She truly is a master of getting to the heart of women's fiction. I have missed her and wish I had kept up with her. I remember how I couldn't stop reading Animal Husbandry and HER. Honestly, she finds some very insightful storylines in the women's psyche.

SMALL WORLD is a reflection of the past and how it affects the present and even the future. It's a look back on family and the devasting problems that can accumulate in one's mind. Although, this is a heavy-duty start. It made me cry, but then again I easily cry when I read books.

Oh, it wasn't a major catastrophe although the distraught just keeps spinning as the family falls apart. Of course, it's full of questions.

It's a story of two sisters who have gone on in their education,  married, and now divorced. They move in together and reconnect, hopefully. Was it all what it had seemed, growing up? Yes, they are a bit bitter how their mother perceived her own goals in life without them. They are certain they never amounted to what she would have wanted. Still, as the story unfolds, they see the little things. Their mom was there for them in spite of most of her time was spent trying to change the world for the better because of a disabled sister.

It's a story that makes you look at your life and family. Truly, it is a treasure. I love Zigman's wit.

  1. I read Animal Husbandry so long ago that I forgot about it! Now I'm interested to check out more from Zigman, and Small World looks like a good place to start. I love bittersweet stories about families. And, of course, wittiness! Also, it's good to see Annie. πŸ“•πŸ“™πŸ“’πŸ“—πŸ“˜
