It is an indie classic I always wanted to watch directed and starring Vince Gallo. Of course, it is Christina Ricci who made the movie plausible. Yes, the script wasn't nearly as cool as I had hoped. But Vince did write it. Perhaps it was a learning experience. Yet he had such an exceptional cast for this film of a guy just getting out of prison and trying to keep it a secret from his parents.
And I did enjoy this New York State of mind of this film (upstate New York that is) Oh, I wouldn't advise any girl to fall in love with someone who kidnaps her. But this was made in 1998. If you get a chance watch this indie classic.
I stopped painting in 1990 at the peak of my success just to deny people my beautiful paintings. And I did it out of spite.-Vincent Gallo
My all-time favorite movie of Ricci'a, PUMPKIN with Hank Harris. He made her character Human. |
on the funny side...I always thought she made Buffalo 66 film with Joaquin Phoenix. I had seen the stills and had an entirely different movie in my head that was nothing as simple as this film. Wow, if only they'd made the movie I had in mind about a guy who finds a girl while out on his motorcycle journey and how she changed his life (I don't think that's Brown Bunny). Too bad that movie never got made. -Ellie
I've never seen this film and I already want to see it. I miss seeing old productions.

ReplyDeleteI wou;ldn't beat yourself up over the writer's group. I don't think I would either. But I'm a seat of your pants/ winging it type of writer, so that advice and presentations would just make me roll eyes. And I like online tpye feedback!
DeleteThat's cool abut the book! And I hope the rest of your week goes better. I'm surprised about the doctor?
Isn't that the famous felatio christina ricci scene on joaquin phoenix?
ReplyDeleteI was mistaken too. That's Vincent Gallo. Joaquin is with Anna Paxton in Buffalo Soldiers. I have a feeling I wouldn't like that film..but I might be wrong. Joaquin's best film ever was Clay Pigeons IMO.
DeleteAdrienne Shelly's The Unbelievable Truth (1989) is much much better. I love the Jersey dialogue and that infamous fight scene where no one gets punched in the face is priceless.
DeleteSounds interesting
