Revisiting Untamed

The 2019 C-Drama Hit had a lot going for it. Yeibo wasn't a K-pop trainee anymore. He had a hit song in his home country China. Although, he was more than a stick when it came to acting. Zhan on the other hand was quite randy and could act circles around his co-star (gotta say this graphic designer hasn't had a character this great since..Oh, and he started out in a boy band in China).

But that's not all there is to this 50 episode drama. Of course, a lot of BL has been made from these two and they may never act together again. But it is a bromance. Possibly the last of the great Chinese bromance. Unless you are a Word of Honor fan like I am.

Here is a story we learn about the elite cultivators and their sects. Of course, some are more honorable than others. Some even choose the dark side. And don't forget all that coupling. You've got a lot of soul mating going on in this one which results in a band of brothers. And really all they would like to do is solve mysteries and seek justice.

You also have revenge. Especially, from those who were never treated well within the sect. Either cut down from who their mother was, or just an orphan they took in. Along the way is a mix that goes to show not all is black and white. Yes, there are marriages. Mothers who are of equal value as their fathers. Still, some have been raised away from family.  Yet, family is important. Of course, Zhan's character falls to the darkside, but he still loves and honors his family very much. While that doesn't happen to all the characters in this story.

You have a few dark villains that start from the darkest of arts families. And then the clever one who seems the nicest, but really isn't. So you do have a lot to watch for in this long series, but you won't sense the longevity and wish for Untamed 2.

Now my favorite is Yu Bin's character who becomes the Ghost General. He's sort of a Frankenstein kind of guy, and his sister helps him become human from the diseased Ghost Puppets..which later our randy male lead develops a way to use him because of his strength. Still, Ghost Guy hasn't lost his mind and he is rather pivotal throughout the whole series. I love that his character can confide in others. He knows things, even if he's treated as an outsider by most. Yes, he's the one who knows the ML's story..and if it would have been any other time the ML might have married his sister. So they have a close bond too, yet in the end he finds his own soul mate so it's good to see that hope.

Many have watched this series already. You just might want to revisit it and watch the other stories that evolve in this series. Although, I don't think I would have ever fallen in love with Yeibo (Wang Yi Bo) until I watched the gaming C-drama Gank Your Heart...which is by far the worst name for a drama.

Lindo demais! Beijos!

    1. Girl, I love this series, I've seen it 3 times! Yes, it's a bromance and because of censorship, the scenes that reveal there's a romance going on are well disguised. The two main characters are very different from each other, but they still fall in love. Too beautiful! Kisses! 💗🌈💛💗🌈💛💗🌈💛 But there was so much to this series that just those two as well. And China does have a censorship, but I think it was much more lineated then than it is now.

  4. Couplings haha. Interesting too about that name.

Interesting about the censorship. Yes I imagine they only allow certain things. Thank you for your sharing this.

    Hope you're well...
