HAN: So, anything you want to talk about at the Complex? [He zooms in with his camera lens to make this documentary video on his phone. They are sitting in Nav's humble abode at the trailer park near the Ocean City Boardwalk].
NAV: OK, maybe I shouldn't say anything, really, about the matter. Although it just keeps coming to mind [Nav practically winks with a sigh]. It's just been on my mind ever since I met Dakota. [ Nav reaches for a cup of coffee to sip as he thinks about what to say]. It wasn't the best of circumstances [he smiles, almost laughs.] Shit happens, [he nods about the matter] It's part of the job. [He laughs.]
See, I grew up in a motel, and to make ends meet, we had to do the maintenance. I learned a lot as a kid, just watching my dad. So fixing a toilet is nothing new. But sometimes, it's not always the toilet.
HAN: You mean, like it's got a mind of its own?
[Han's question makes Nav laugh. He shakes his head, no.]
NAV: Dakota is a nice person. I enjoyed chatting with her. She takes care of the place. For the most part, a really healthy individual. But her poo wouldn't flush. I know it was a pancreatitis attack. She'd been drinking.
HAN: Are you saying she's an alcoholic?
NAV: I'm saying she drank too much. But I don't really want to say anything [he squints with a shrug]. Unless it happens again. [He pauses as if he's said too much.] It must be the doctor coming out in me to diagnose her problem. Let's just hope she's learned her lesson.
[Nav then suggests that Han erase that portion of the video, so Han does. They do a retake].
TAKE 2
HAN: How's life at the complex?
NAV: I wish I could sleep more. I feel I'm always on the run. Something always needs to be fixed [Nav smiles with his best toothy grin]. I have a visiting cat. She purrs so sweetly, but I think she must have an owner.
HAN: Anything else going on?
NAV: Oh, I try to stay out of everyone's business. But a few days ago, I made pizza for a little boy on my grill. [Looks over shoulder at the gas grill that is outside of his little trailer.] Dunno, if he's just visiting or lives here. He's nonverbal, but he seemed to enjoy the pita bread. It does make a crispy crust. It was good to have lunch with him. I gave him a backpack of treats. Hopefully, he's got a home here at the complex.
