Ocean City RP - Liz

 

Liz was glad no one had asked her many questions. She couldn't say why she was really with Cole. Other than the idea of getting away from a lover who might as well have kept her on a shelf for safekeeping. 

Yeah, she'd listened to Cole that night. It felt more like a fairytale now that fizzled. They were nowhere being soulmates or life partners. She was thankful Cole was the kind of person who wanted to give things time. Yet, she felt she might have been holding him back. Or was she just holding herself back?

And then she found Ezra alone in the elevator. They were going up. She nursed her bottom lip for longer than she wished. Trying to figure out what she could say, but this might be her only chance. She could see why Delia liked him. Even hated him. 

"Oh, you're the one who got Delia's doll for Christmas, aren't you?" She felt herself go numb. Did she actually say that to a stranger? Well, everyone was a stranger these days.

"Huh?" His dark eyes looked at her blankly.

"She said she couldn't keep it. She was afraid Han would be upset." Liz told him. Her face flushed thinking she was supposed to keep it a secret, but Delia hadn't given a pinky promise...so...

He slightly laughed. She thought she even saw a little smile. 

"I should have known." He shook his head as if he might be disgusted. 

"Is she a sex doll?" Liz found herself saying. Again. She felt a little dizzy. What had made her say such things? She felt as if it were a last chance of some kind.

He cracked up. "I don't really know. I just watch TV with her."

Liz nodded as if she'd do the same thing. 

Ezra acted as if he might choke, so he said nothing more. Finally, the elevator came to a stop. The doors open. They went out together. Although they were closely touching each other, as if the doors might close in on them. 

"You?" He stared at her.

She nodded as if she could read his mind. They even walked in the same direction. It was at the moment she knew he knew where she was going.

"Could..could I see her?" Liz looked at him.

He shrugged as he unlocked his door. She followed and saw the life-sized doll on the couch as if she might be waiting for him.

"We need to get her some clothes," Liz said matter-of-factly as if he couldn't keep her in a white T-shirt forever.

Ezra shrugged.

"She's got a name, doesn't she?"

"Um, I call her Em, ever so often." He winced.

"Em." She accepted it. Maybe they would all be friends.
