There are a lot of bromances out there, but not that many girlfriend movies where..girls just want to be friends. Where there is no guy to worry over. No romance, but still about two college acquaintance who had a bad experience together, thinking they could never be friends. But things change when you've got nowhere to go in a big city like New York and the other desperately needs a roommate.
Ari Graynor who stars in it help produce the film. Lauren Miller, also staring in the film help write the screenplay. With a little help from character actor Justin Long this was really a good film. So much different than I expected.
And I loved Mark Webber's performance as Sean, the character who is on the phone with Ari's Katie, a lot. But they have a lot more in common than phone sex. They just like to talk. While Miller's character as Lauren is the out of work, been dumped housemate who has the skills to get Ari's business going.
Some of the most famous male comedians in the United States don’t
have a problem with having a crude sense of humor. However, when a
female comedian tells a similar joke, it’s regarded as an audacious move
(i.e. Chelsea Handler, Kathy Griffin). But, this past year has seen a slew of female-centric entertainment like “Bridesmaids” and HBO’s “Girls” challenging crude humor stereotypes. In that same vein is “For a Good Time, Call…” starring Lauren Anne Miller (“50/50”) and Ari Graynor (“Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist”). The film was directed by Jamie Travis and is his first feature-length film.-the eagle scene |
I can definitely say the story was original. Also having Sugar Lyn Beard's Krissy certainly did put a twist in the story.
It was great to see Lauren Miller in this film. I hope she gets a chance to be in more TV and films. There is just something honest and real about her character. Of course, Graynor is always quite the character actress.
This movie is hysterical. I related to these characters in more ways
than one. It was an Ovaries before Brovaries, chicks before dicks, kind
of movie and I adored it. Not to mention it referenced Tina Fey’s
personal life, made me laugh until I got a headache and was full of so
many adorable dresses and decorating ideas! Simply put, perfect movie for a night out with the girls or gay besties. Move over Bridesmaids, here comes another movie starring hilarious women.-Ash |
