nico & violet

Violet usually loved to talk, but as of late she'd grown used to the silence. Perhaps, it was because of a year ending an another beginning. She pondered for a moment in her room with the new bed covers in place.

She flopped down on the bed. Her brother brought her a whole new bedding. It was in her favorite colors of pastel. Still, she felt lonesome. Maybe homesick.

When had she ever been homesick? Oh, she had an inkling her folks were having troubles, but usually she'd go out and keep herself busy. It was best not to get in their way. Naturally, it was their brother they favored.

She was on the brink of tears.

"What's the matter?" Nico asked from her doorway. "Are you sick?"

He kept his arms crossed as he leaned against the doorway, watching her.

She pressed her lips tight, not wanting him to see her. She turned to the wall so she wouldn't have to look at him. Why did she need to explain?
Nico & Violet

Before she knew it he was on the bed next to her. It was tight fit, but he stretched out with his hands behind his back and gazed at the ceiling.

"Am I going to have sleep with you, tonight?" He asked.

She frowned and the tears burned her eyes. Violet did her best to keep back the tears, but she couldn't.

"I've never seen you, upset..about anything." Nico told her. "You're everyone's cheerleader. That happy smile of yours. Its like a ray of sunshine."

She wasn't sure if he was making fun of her or trying to be helpful. Probably, neither. He was being somber Nico.

"What do you want?" She practically wailed when she turned to him, but he caught her and brought her in for a hug.

"I don't like to see you sad. I thought you didn't have it in you." She thought she almost saw him smile.  "Lets go to the park and watch the fireworks on New Year's eve."

"But..but it'll be cold and you say people will be wanting noodles. Remember, you were thinking about being a midnight diner." She was in a pout.

"I know, I say a lot of stuff, sometimes." He brushed her hair away from her eyes.

"What's there to be happy about? Huh?" She pulled away from him. He brought her in for another hug.

"Um, you're here." He told her. "And...I've been thinking." He looked her in the eye. "Maybe we should do more things..than just working together."

She winced then. What did that mean?

He kissed her on the forehead and told her to get ready. When was the last time she had fried chicken and beer?
