| Opposites do attract even while pondering how to end it all. |
Honestly, it has to be the best of the best of 2021 Chinese dramas. Although, it's rather short. But you've got unique and interesting characters. A great soundtrack. Such beautiful cinematography..one might wish it to be a movie. And yet many of us don't get to see a new Chinese movie so I am glad the producers chose this venue.
It has the under-rated Leon Leong (27 and whose claim to fame was being in Meteor Garden as one of the supporting Flower Boys). Add the delightful Vivienne Tien as the girl who's lived with hoodlums all her life. It's an accident that Tien's Liao meets soft Chong (Leon). It's a quirky little story that involves a bird. Yet, it's rather universal. These types exist all over the world.
Chong is a loner. He's so alone (his family is dead) he is contemplating his exit in spite of being rather lucky in life. Yes, he's able to make money. Somehow. But that just doesn't seem to be enough. His old high schoolmates have no idea where he went. And the cousin who is still around is always wanting something. Chong has just stayed home. Waiting for the right moment to end it. And then comes along Liao who is on the run. She knows the gang wants her out. They drugged her. But she gets away just in the nick of time to fall in the river. That's where the two meet. Suddenly Chong is an accidental hero. So the story begins and it's really worth the ride.

ReplyDeleteWow, talk about fate! A movie with such a dramatic meeting and compelling characters seems like a winner. Any movie described as "a quirky little story that involves a bird." has my vote. :)
ReplyDeleteI can totally see how elderly people connect with your dolls. My grandmother was like that; she loved dolls and stuffed animals. She said that they were very knowing. I also love how the ones you keep stay together. :)
