TharnTye (2019) However not all will be charmed by this drama now streaming on Netflix & VIKI. |
Seriously, this BL drama has a lot going for it. It goes places you won't get in some Asian BL dramas. It's got its feels and possibly a little too real for some. Saying that, I'm not talking about SEX but the emotion of it. There are triggers from the past. Also, some will not be able to handle the non-consent parts of this series. Still, you have two main characters that are so interesting. Both at the Uni. One (Type) is into sports, but the drama king (for good reason) when he finds out his roommate is GAY (his teammate tells him) He goes off the deep end and he wants him out. But Tharn has his principles too. He's not backing down. What was once a great roommate friendship turns strange. Maybe even petty. Still, there is an attraction.
This drama has lots of interesting friendships. It's kind of cool to see the Uni dorm life, as well. Actually, this drama has two seasons. It was that popular in Thailand (word has it there will be probably none BL dramas coming from Tawain [which are the best] due to the Chinese crackdown on the entertainment industries..it doesn't meet their pure standards). However, the series is written by a woman. It's based on a Manga by Mame. Granted, I can understand the cliches, and while some will jump to say NO to this show. Especially, when the HisStory series(Tawain) is always surprisingly fresh and clever and mutual consent is apparent. It's as if this story is at ground zero. Yet, you still wonder where it's going. It's the characters that make you come back for more as well as the supporting cast.
How can I not mention that irresistible friend Techno (He's like the Andy Samberg of this show) who tries to keep the peace with everyone. Played by Mild Jinna Pichit-o-Pakun. |
:) very good style
ReplyDeleteaccepting that someone is different to what we thought is not easy. However, somewhere out there, someone always becomes himself
ReplyDeleteSounds good
ReplyDeleteThis movie sounds interesting. And it's good to hear that it's breaking the barrier to gay relationships in Asian film. Finally, I love that it has its own version of Andy Samberg! :)
