Sky & Paper (Tong is also a novelist) |
I have been watching a Thailand Drama called Second Chance, but I swear the whole school is gay..even the teachers seemingly might be. It's like a Thailand Degrassi. Yet, it is a really good coming-of-age story. Initially, there is Paper and Sky and you sense they have to be more than friends. Although, I see Paper as the more intellectual one who will end up taking care of Sky (he's lost his father and is in a bit of depressed mode) In spite of their ups and downs they are friends with other maybe relationships around them. So it's interesting to see how these other relationships are happening too.
Yet, the important thing to realize is that life is always changing and even if one is at the beginning of finding someone, worlds collide. The drama also deals with the bully and his posse at the school. I also found the girls quite silly for the most part. Maybe in a sense, some of the sisters are protective of their brothers. But when you have a mean bully around..what can you do? Still, there is tragedy. And the drama is packed with emotions. It really goes to show how tender youth really is. Finding who you are isn't just challenging but can be heartbreaking too. Yes, we need to be kind to each other. And I really felt this drama touched on a lot of issues we tend to overlook. Especially, when it comes to consent as well as not really talking enough about what is happening. But sometimes, it's too late and even if you could have said more, would it have been enough? So many mysteries to ponder.
I didn't know about this drama yet. I've seen a lot of lgbt themed dramas, and I've found this representation that we don't see in Asian entertainment pretty cool.

Sounds good
ReplyDeleteWe should respect to everyone! But LGBT is really a big issue (problem) to government. This is not correct.
ReplyDeleteParece un genial drama. Gracias por la recomendación. Te mando un beso
ReplyDeleteArty the Bully sounds (and looks!) like a handful! You're so right when you say that the teen years are a trial. Everything is so raw, everyone is so judgy, and too few people dare to be real. Thanks for sharing a movie that tackles it all.
