A Valentine Wish

It was the year I fell in love with my boyfriend's best friend. I know..how could I.. It's just when we went out, he tagged along and somebody was always smoking a cigarette outside..so I spent more time with the best friend than him. Oh, he was fun to go to the movies with. The laughs we shared. The times spent listening about Chicago. Seriously, some would say he was a Moma's boy, but I really felt he was a protector instead. He was always willing to be by her side through the thick of it..even if she might not have been in the right mental state. He cooked for me once. It was kind of an accident, but he had the making of a great chef in his grandmother's kitchen. It was quaint. He told me about a girl he knew in Chicago and I was pretty sure she might have been his girl. I dunno for sure. And then we were going to go to the Valentines' Dance. Except, he got kicked out of school. Pot was found in his locker. I knew it wasn't his because he never smelled of ganja. There was only one person I knew who did. He moved back to Chicago after that.

  3. Ooh, such drama! Was her boyfriend the pot smoker who got sent back to Chicago? Never mind, don't tell me; I kind of like not knowing for sure. Anyway, the best friend's girlfriend (to parrot The Cars!) slash boyfriend's best friend storyline is popular for a reason. It's realistic! Your details are what sell this story; the shared smoke breaks, the accidental home-cooked meal, and perhaps most compelling of all, the understanding about a mentally struggling mother. Honestly, Ellie, few writers can say so much in so few words. You truly have a gift!
