Myla had her heart set on moving to sunny California. Oh, she'd dreamed of it since she was a kid. She was very tired of these mid-west winters even if they were getting milder by the year. But the pandemic hit and she stayed put. Thankfully, she stayed employed at the data place. Some of it, she got to work from home, but as time went on she was back in the office and that's when she met Tate.
Really, it was purely plutonic, but that smile just made the day better. Always friends and he had a way of making her glad she was still at this customer service job. He was organized but never antagonizing. Not like some of the old women she'd worked with, in the past. Somehow, he found the good in everything. Before she knew it, she was smiling too. And not thinking of California.
Not to say it was easy anywhere with rising gas prices, and paying the electric bill. She lived in her little apartment since college. Yes, maybe she was going nowhere. But still, she was making the most of where she was.
After all, he liked to bake cookies and even make popsicles. Yes, he was always there with goodies. Oh, she did wonder if he was trying to make her fat. And she asked him that once. Of course, he laughed. Didn't she know sharing a meal together was part of the joy of life?
Sharing meals are the best!

ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet story! I love how Tate brings sunshine into Myla's life, making her forget all about California. And I'm always a fan of the friends-first romance. I love the last line: "Didn't she know sharing a meal together was part of the joy of life?" Nice!
ReplyDeleteOh, and thanks for including my floral fabric in this oh-so-spring collage! I love that the words "choose happy" are on it. They're a perfect fit for this story -- and for life!
