Honestly, Grace didn't think she could start a family on her own, but then she met Gerome and she knew he needed a home. It wasn't quite love at first sight. Oh, he was a handful in her classroom, but she wouldn't give up on this nonreader. And before she knew it, he was actually writing real words that made sense.
Oh, she didn't think it would work. But each day she'd ask what he liked about the story that she'd read. It wasn't long until there were pages in his journal which turned into more writing sessions. Students who had been so petty to each other were finally wanting to help each other. Even plays came about.
She knew Gerome had a bad home life with a family that was in a bad way, even if his father had made it to an NFL team. Each day, Gerome stayed after school telling her his worries. Of course, she did what she could, making sure he had plenty to eat and the basics. It wasn't until his mom went to jail that she asked for Grace's help.
Three months later Grace met Violet who wasn't in her RESOURCE class, but a neighbor girl who Gerome met at the playground. She was left with her Dad who didn't even try to take care of her, but Grace was there and it wasn't long until her Dad asked for help. He needed to move to a big job overseas. Soon enough it was three and Grace felt it was meant to be.
Good for Grace!

Genial fragmento. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful and heartwarming story! Grace has so much love to give, and the the gift of reading is one of the most powerful. The detail about Germone's dad being an NFL player is interesting; we don't often think of fame and hardship coexisting, but that's not always the case. Finally, I love how you incorporated a bottle of "grace" bath product in the collage! :)
