Only Just Married

27-year-old Ookado Akiha who vows to stay single, gets a proposal to enter into a fake marriage from 30-year-old Momose Shuu who wants to get the status of a married man for some reason. Through living together as a fake couple, their relationship gradually changes.

I probably enjoyed this drama more than some. It probably left them wondering just how immature this drama was and the culture of it. Still, it had some great MLs. It was great to see them both in this together. Even in a fake marriage. [In real-life the female Actress, Seino Nana was pregnant and just had her baby a few weeks ago. There was one scene where he was very careful how he hugged her].

Yes, at times it was a frustrating drama. It was especially frustrating to her. And deep down you felt, hey, you've got the guy who takes care of the cat..go with him (the second lead who becomes her confidant that she has lunch with). After all, the second lead had such a fantastic smile and happiness about him. But someone stole her heart in a very stoic way. As the drama progressed you realize he knows he's not a regular guy. Too shy for his own good, yet smart enough to make it in a big company (can that possibly happen?)

I loved the supporting cast in this. Her boss, especially. You also get the rich history of how for centuries in Japan the family would pick who their child would be with. And as her grandmother told her, she did not like her husband immediately, but they worked in the noodle shop and learned to survive together. She had only wished she'd had more time to spend with him and had known him better.

It wasn't until the red couch was to be hauled off to be sold that he realized how important she was to him.

Along the way, you get little nuggets of wisdom. How some people don't need a marriage certificate to live together.  But it wasn't until the RED COUCH that put me in tears (their favorite place to talk and drink beer). It was a very subtle approach, but afterward, you are thinking..hey, they still use symbolism in these dramas which gave it that 'pure' feel. Yes, absolutely pure. Which is something many can't handle anymore.  They are used to watching the grit, the blood, the abused and whatever law and order might give them. But this was a sweet little drama..and it makes you wonder how do we get together, anyway? As always communication is key.

  3. Oh, this sounds like my kind of movie! From those matching cat shirts to the purity of what you describe as simply great storytelling. I'm always here for a plot that hinges on people instead of action. Thanks for sharing! :)
