Face in the Crowd

Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find
Much o' mistrust, love's gone behind

Honestly, Keith wasn't sure what happened when he met Sonya. Actually, it was love at first sight. He loved walking with her in the late autumn air on campus. They ate in University Cafeteria. Soon he was calling her in the morning to wake her up for breakfast. Honestly, it wasn't fast-paced.

Most of their time was spent discussing life. What they wanted and how they might get it. Of course, there was the music too. He was the poetic sort. She was a great listener.

Keith thought he'd stick at the University and become a teacher and then a professor because after all, the professors loved his papers. And he thought Sonya would follow suit. But one summer changed everything. She went to a music festival without him.

The next thing he knew she was using him poetry for songs. And not in a sweet pop way, but with heavy metal and singing like a punk on stage, stomping about and practically making love to an electric guitar.

It made him nauseous. This was not the way he expected he would fall out of love. It was as if he was doomed to hate her. But she didn't seem to mind. She had the rocker look down and she had fans to please.

It still hurt to believe she was the girl who was lost that day, and he'd helped her find the right dorm which was next to his.

  3. This is beautiful: "Most of their time was spent discussing life. What they wanted and how they might get it. Of course, there was the music too. He was the poetic sort. She was a great listener." Then, bam, another relationship gone wrong! I like how you weaved in the music festival, almost as if you're exploring a new angle of your last post.

By the way, best of luck with the library's poetry project -- no matter how messy it gets!
