Oh, Clay would try anything to get out of studying. He had to be Nina's worst student she tutored. No way was she seeing him get accepted into any great university this year.
OK, so maybe she wasn't all that great herself, but she'd studied enough. Knew enough. Also, she needed to pay off her FOREVER 21 credit card. You'd think by now she would just work there, but it hadn't happened yet. Instead, she felt more secure having a few students to tutor in math and English.
Yes, maybe it was a toss-up. Did she need to get her career cranked up or just spend every afternoon at the library with a high school student? After all, she wasn't really sure what to do. And interviews wiped her out, in spite of a pandemic. She wasn't any better on ZOOM.
But here they were in real-time. And she was coaxing him in Trig. Lord knows, what he had on his mind. Riding a motorcycle. Off shooting pool with his pals.
"I had a dream about you," he finally said as they were finishing up. "I spend more time with you than my girlfriend." Of course, he didn't look thrilled with the matter.
"Well, maybe you should invite her," Nina cracked up. Oh, wouldn't it be nice to get money from two instead of just Clay?
"Don't you want to know about the dream?" He looked at her.
"No, not really," she shrugged. She heard a lot of stuff from students. Usually, it was about their Love Life Drama.
"I bet you wonder what it was about," Clay cracked a smile that was so unlike him. Generally, he was focused on learning to Rap, but he just didn't seem to have the rhythm down. She told him to keep practicing.
"As long as you weren't thinking about me naked," Nina looked at him rather seriously. It wasn't that she had a boyfriend, but she didn't want to think of tutoring someone who was thinking of her in the buff.
He laughed out loud then. "How did you know?" He choked on a giggle.
Nina had a good mind to just get her books and laptop together and go. She stood up.
"Oh, it really wasn't that bad," he said. "It's just somebody said we could go to this concert for free, but there was a catch. We would have to go in the nude."
Nina shook her head. "Clay you have three more problems to do. You're not going anywhere. Get back to work." If there was one thing she knew these days, you had to let them talk until you'd had enough. Nina had a feeling she might teach kids after all but in elementary school.
Very interesting 😊

ReplyDeleteOh, this is so funny! I love all the little details, like about Nina needing to pay off her Forever 21 credit card and how she might as well tutor Clay's girlfriend too to bring in some extra money. But the thing that got me the most is how Clay's dream didn't lead to a romance between him and Nina, but just more disgust on Nina's part -- plus the revelation that she should go into teaching.
ReplyDeleteThe boots in the collage are so cool! 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
