Fiction Tuesday - What is it about Colleen Hoover?

Tracy was asking this in a post recently at Tote Trove. Hoover specializes in emotional damage I suppose. Although, her biggest goal is to increase adult literacy. And she has certainly made an impact not just with young adults and young women but with the old crowd as well. I have met an 85-year-old man who loves her work. So she is reaching many with her novels.

For the most part, it isn't just a romance. It's domestic fiction. She touches on family issues and problems that many can relate to. Even so, it doesn't mean you will fall in love with every book. And these days she does her best to give her fans what they want. However, it doesn't mean it will be completely satisfying.

As one patron told me, "I wanted closure from the Hopeless series, but this was just not what I was wanting."

Still, you will find Hoover's characters interesting and likable. Yes, this might be a great year for Hoover yet. While some southern writers have been IT authors in the past, they seemed to have relied on 'white trash' which in general left many feeling it to be in poor taste. Of course, sometimes, we need to read something then let it rest and come back to it to see if it's still as wonderful as we thought it was. Sometimes, time will change our feelings.

  3. Oh, I was so surprised to see this! I'm always looking to read new-to-me authors, which means that Hoover goes on my (admittedly endless) TBR list. Thanks for the info -- and the shoutout! πŸ“•πŸ“™πŸ“’πŸ“—πŸ“˜
