"Well, it's like this," Huck's grin was kind of intense. After all, Rachel wasn't sure where he went after she ate. She said she'd clean up the kitchen while he took care of her room. She hoped he wasn't going to tell her she would have to sleep outside tonight.
Rachel could imagine him throwing a tent on the above deck and saying, "Sleep tight." That was how her luck was going as of late. Although, she kept thinking positive. It wasn't awful here, but was kind of odd.
"What do you mean?" Rachel looked at him as if he couldn't just say nothing.
"Uh," he sighed and tilted his head a little. She watched his lanky body shrug as he then hugged himself. He winced a grin. "You'll be in the bunkroom with me."
"What?" Now she squinted as if that sounded like they were on a ranch. Not by the ocean.
"It's not like we're sleeping together. I mean, it's a pretty big room. You'll be on the bottom bunk. It's pretty roomy. There are beds that we rent out sometimes. You know, when there are competitions or, a holiday." He was a bit timid as he explained this. He motioned for her to come with him.
"So is this, kind of like camping?" She asked as she followed him down the hall. Honestly, she was getting skeptical of her summer here.
"Maybe," Huck looked back at her as if this was going to be fun, but then sighed as if he had no idea what she might think. He opened the door. "There's power, AC, and the internet." He mentioned.
Rachel looked around at the long room. There were bunkbeds, alright, but he would be in one corner and she would be in the other with a closet between them. He showed her a desk. There was a Chromebook.
"Did you bring a laptop?" He asked.
She shook her head no. She'd had to leave it behind.
"Well, it's not new. I just tinker with stuff like this. It works really well," he told her.
Rachel nodded. She liked the idea of having it around.
"You can even play Animal Crossings," He smiled.
"I don't really play games," she told him. He nodded.
"Well, we should have the place to ourselves, most of the week, but the weekend could mean business."
"Like a hostel?" She almost grimaced.
"Don't say that," he shook his head, no. "That sounds like a horror movie," Huck told her he knew most of the people who came to the place. They were mostly other surfers, but sometimes they brought their families too. "That's when they get the suit upstairs."
"Am I going to cook for them?" She had no idea it was going to be this way.
"It's not a big deal. We don't have dinners here. Sometimes, there are snacks, but not all the time. Usually, they bring us food. It's not like it's a significant bed and breakfast. "
She hoped not. She didn't know any recipes to feed a herd, and besides she was working at the Surf Shop.
Muy bueno, deseando continuar :)

ReplyDeleteA bunkroom? lol then I read further and it's not so bad. At least there's space. she's really getting more than she bargained for though, isn't she? I'm really curious how things will go with Huck. And working at the surf shop.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, this isn't what Rachel signed up for! This part says it all:

"Don't say that," he shook his head, no. "That sounds like a horror movie," . . .
Still, I can't help but wonder if one of these "guests" will add to Rachel's adventure. Lots of possibilities for the summer! 🌊⛱🌞👙🥽🛶🪁
