I did try my best to have a contest at this one site where I make my sets mostly with a Dad Theme for Father's Day... Who's your favorite TV dad, but I didn't really have much of a response. I don't know if that's secretly telling you something about the state of our Americana or what. I did try my best to make a few sets about TV dads.
I feel Dads are more hands-on than ever before in taking care of children. This decade I have seen more of a team effort in families, especially seeing families who come to the library. Of course, you have some dads that are very aware of what their child reads. Others share their great love for science fiction and nonfiction about space. And even those weekend dads have their hands full keeping track of what is on their child's card.
My NEVER WILL FORGET STORY: That one time on an early Sunday afternoon, this kid all of seven with a shaggy haircut, looking like he might be the next rocker to watch for in a decade or so showed up with his books to checkout. Behind him was a couple barely dressed in cut-offs and skinny tanks, making out like banjees. "I guess you can see my parents made up this weekend."
Of course, there are some fathers who never get it right until they become a grandfather and they become an entirely different person. They might have been a no-show to a lot of things while their kids were growing up since they were on the graveyard shift or they had no idea how to handle the dishwasher or making a meal. Then there are some who are just Popa who make the day better by just being there as the great listener, yet might have a story or two about a dog or how he had rabies three times and has lived to tell about it.
Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads out there!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen that show! I'm surprised I never heard of it. Is that Paul Reiser?
ReplyDeleteI think you're right about dads. I think the younger generations are doing things differently. Not that older dads can't hands on too, but I do think there i a generational shift...
You're right- there are all kinds. I LOVE that story!
Yes, that's Paul! Thanks for your comment! I knew of someone who introduced her boyfriend to her nieces who were all preschool at the time (one of them might have been in school) and it was secretly part of her Daddy training or testing. Of course, they all fell in love with him and I guess he's a keeper. Because she started a family with him.
DeleteCool story!
DeleteSo, our air went out. And we're getting 90 degree weather. They can't have the part til Monday. Dying here...
OH..NO ..I feel for you. Hope you are finding a way to stay cool.

I watched My Two Dads! The apartment was especially cool, with the old car and everything. I also love that you included Arrested Development in the collage. It's such a hilarious and offbeat show, and I'm a fan of anything with Micheal Cera. But to get to the, ahem, heart of the matter, what you say about dads is to true. They're more involved than ever, and it was heartwarming to hear how they help their kids discover the joy of reading at your library. Even if, at times, their amorous reconciliations embarrass their offspring! I also enjoyed the bit about a grandfather dispensing wise gems, including his rabies survivor story. Finally, that cake looks amazing! 🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰
