Huck & Rachel

Huck didn't mean to be in such despair, but honestly, he felt he was under Cobie's thumb. He had been for a long time. He didn't want to talk about it, but it helped to explain it to Rachel, and she was a great listener.

"I don't mean," he sighed. "To be so pitiful. But, it's just..we have a love-hate relationship." He talked of Cobie. "I thought he was the best when I was growing up. When..when I didn't know better." He told her this over pancakes she'd made from whatever she could find in the fridge. After all, they were living off SPAM for the most part these days.

He kept busy on his phone, looking for a way they could get away, but nothing sufficed as of yet.

"It's just, Cobie has to control everything. He's well..the son that counts, you know." Huck winced. "Everything is in his name."

After all, Huck was a nobody. The help's kid, wasn't he? Sure Mick loved his mother and Huck guessed Mick loved him too. It was nothing really, in the long run.

"We have to get away, we have to," Rachel told him who wasn't eating much of her breakfast but she was on her phone too. Someone had texted. Probably her brother. Her mother never called. It was as if she'd been given the silent treatment, but Huck didn't think Rachel minded. It was as if she knew the only one who would give her the truth was her brother.

She smiled then as she texted.

"Did you find something?" He looked up at her as her eyes were still on her phone. All he was finding was how expensive everything was. It made him sad, thinking why hadn't he saved more? He'd never really had a chance. He felt he was always in debt to Cobie.

"I got something from Jamie?" She smiled proudly as she showed him the text.

"What?" Neither had heard from Jamie since the beginning of summer. He was an online friend who somehow found a way to get them together. Yes, there was a reason to believe sometimes, that Huck was just a foolish brat looking for any way to escape while Jamie made them his puppets.

He looked through the novel that Rachel had texted about all their troubles with Cobie and how they wanted to see if things might be better out in Davenport. Huck winced then never realizing PORT was in Davenport. He sighed what did that really mean?

"I can help with that," their friend texted.

Huck laughed. He doubted Jamie could make his day.

  1. I feel bad for Huck. And Rachel is trying so hard to find a place for them. I'm really wondering about this Jamie. Wasn't he the one who set Rach up with this gig? I remember earlier this summer when this story started... I love the journey. :)

Thanks for the tip on cilantros. I'm going to experiment with adding to more things. I like the faceclaims. I found one (well on Pinterest) for Hillier the other day. I thought it might humanize her more if I found image. Ursrtyle looks fun. Do you combine images and stories there? :):)

    1. Usually, I just do my sets there, but sometimes I will post a story. You've got a lot of fashionistas there..but don't worry..all sorts of people are creative there. It's a good way to work on graphics. Just don't let it put you off. Great that you want to give us faceclaims. I'm looking forward to it. Thanks for your comment. Oh, I had just about forgot about Jamie too..and it does add a little mystery too. Of course, these two need all the help they can get..(✿◕‿◕✿)

For some reason I'm very invested in the Rach/ Huck story and am super curious

  3. Poor Huck! To think of himself as the son that doesn't count! As for Rachel, she's really got her work cut out plotting their escape. This is thought-provoking line:

"Yes, there was a reason to believe sometimes, that Huck was just a foolish brat looking for any way to escape while Jamie made them his puppets."

I'd forgotten all about Jamie, but he did set all of this in motion. The puppet part makes me wonder if there's more to that . . . 🥞🚗🌊🌞
