Wade & Ren

Hearing Ren turn the doorknob frantically gets the attention of Wade who is still trying to get the laptops turned on. Yeah, they're as old as the books it seems. With not knowing much about technology either, he needs clarification. "What's going on?" Wade looks up hearing annoying rattling. No answer is heard through stale basement so Wade gets off floor, pats his pants of any dirt that could be clinging to his butt, and heads over to where soft noises of panic are made. "Ren? Your shift ending early?" "Um no" Stress glows from her face giving a bad aura to Ren's all-over appearance. "This damn door is locked." "What? It can't be. Bet it's only a little jam." Wade tries the door next. Ringing it to both the right and left sides, nothing happens. Now he tries forcing his body weight into the door. His hand clutches tightly to the knob and his hip swings. Yet to no avail, they are trapped. "This is... ridiculous." He begins pounding on the door with a tight fist. "Miss Lily, Miss Lily" Ren calls out with him. "Miss Lily," they say in sync. Looking at each other in a state of tensity, Wade notices how pale Ren's beginning to look. "Look you're going to be fine. Take a deep breath in and out." He reaches and touches Ren's shoulder. "Relax." "I don't know if that's possible," replies Ren in exhaustion. "I can't handle the amount of dirt and grime in this basement. Her head glances all around the clutter. "There's nowhere to sit and standing is just another obstacle in and of itself." "You know what?" Here" Wade removes the teal polo shirt off his torso. He then clears some books out the way and places the shirt on the ground. "It's not the best but it will have to do." He cues over for Ren to sit. As she does, Wade adjusts the black tee he had worn underneath and sits beside Ren trying to figure the laptops again. A moment of quiet and Ren breaks the silence. "Thanks," she whispers. Tapping away at the keys, Wade grins as he continues but declares, "I'm sure it's only a mistake right? Not like we're locked down here on purpose. No." He pokes and prods some more on the laptop before giving up with a sigh. "Miss Lily will be here soon." Ren hugs her knees. She curls her head inward toward her chest. Being up all night is no fun at all. A yawn comes through so she takes it easy, resting best she can in a crowded space. Wade meanwhile gets up and stretches. His watch reads they been down there for little over an hour. Wade now forges his way to the door again. Looking for anything, a key for starters. His hand reaches up the top of the door frame. All his hand heeds is dust. "Damn it," he grumbles. "Hey, do you think she'll mind?" Wade takes a thin box out the pocket of his cargo pants. He places a cigarette in his mouth, then retrieves a lighter. He's about to light the joint when tired Ren reaches up and peels it away from him. "Not on my watch." Ren's voice chops through the atmosphere. "There are books down here. Old paper and cardboard combined. One stray ash of your cigarette could light the entire place up. Not sure being stuck down here until the end of life was in the training agenda." "Ok fine." Frustrated Wade gets up for the door once again. He bangs both palms on it. If only he had something to break the lock but no all his supplies are at home. He makes a mental note to bring his pocket knife with him next time. This leads him to search high and low between sandwiches of books. Something, just anything to help. His elbow props his head up as he leans on a bookshelf. He feels defeated. "Uh... Wade!!" Ren's face turns to shock. "What, what is it now?" Wade's back turned and still leaning on the shelf becomes flustered. "Look I'm glad to know I'm not alone on this. We both aren't cut out for this job. Turns out we both are having problems. You with lack of sleep and me without nicotine. What else could go wrong?" A thud from the shelf falling down reveals a massive cloud of dust. Both are coughing and swatting their arms around trying to breathe. "I'm sorry. I really am." Pleads Wade between coughs. His mind thinks aloud: "And to think there's no ventilation down here. How stupid." Everything clears after nearly 15 minutes. The 2 of them are filthy along with the confines of the basement, completely drenched in disgusting soot. Layers are seeped into every corner however something stands out. Ren glances into Wade's sorry eyes to see if he notices. "I thought these were only in movies." She mutters. To which Wade shifts his head and views a gaping entrance in the wall as well.
