Damn it, why did she let Harry decide everything? Sarah knew it was an excuse. She always needed an excuse. It was just like knowing 2374baracuda. She took him for granted too. But this was no time to text him to ask him what to do. Besides, she wouldn't want him to know about Fitz. She needed secrets too.
She went to look in her underwear drawer.
"Whatcha doing?"
"Oh, just getting a little something," she grinned and held up half a pint of Jim Bean. She'd drank it ever so often. Only when her throat was sore and that time when she got mad at her step-mother and was alone at the park.
"Oh." He looked at it.
"Only..only to take the edge off."
Sarah nodded. God knows, she'd need courage to see this through. She wasn't one to go that extra mile or was it a smile. Oh, maybe she could.
"You want some?" She held it out to him.
"Well, isn't it against..you know..who's policy?" He was a little more timid than she thought he might be. She thought he would just throw her on the bed and have his way with her, but no, he was standing there looking at the Jim Bean as if it might be a math problem just taking the lid off.
"Just don't worry about it, we won't get drunk." She took the sip quick enoug and it burned all the way down. She made a face of disgust. Fitz gave her a lopsided grin, and took the bottle. He took a bigger sip and put it back where it came from.
She smiled, although, she thought she might faint.
"We won't be needing that, OK?" His body shook with laughter and she watched him ease her to the bed. Honestly, she wasn't expecting that, but it was as if he knew she might fall in the floor.
"A part me, thought you know-"
"You know what?" Sarah looked at him suspeciously with her hands together. He put his hands on top of hers as he sat next to her.
"Oh, don't..don't even worry about it," he pushed his shock of hair back and pressed his lips tight. "You know..it's all in the kiss."
It sounded mysterious to Sarah. Was that the truth? Still, he didn't ask if she'd ever been kissed. She hoped he didn't ask.
"Well..well, can we do everything?" She suddenly said as if she might pull out a credit card to finance the whole romance.
"Everything?" He looked baffled by the matter, but he easily put his arm around her neck and drew her in. Oh, she knew he'd know what to do. Now he was putting a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Let's just start with a kiss," he said. "You know, get a feel for it."
She took a deep breath as if they might be going in for the deep sea. And then his warm mouth was on hers. It was the notion that he knew about this part. Her last kiss had been in middle school with Jeremy Pittsfield who might as well have been drinking soda pop when he kissed her at that spin the bottle party.
Oh, this was way better. No rush, just like water spinning in a dance that she didn't know, but wanted to. She guessed she didn't need Jim Bean after all. His kisses moved forward with tongue all the while getting comfortable in bed. It felt like a lull of some kind that she didn't want to stop.
"Now what?" She asked as soon as she thought he might sleep on her bed.
"Well, we'll just make love with our clothes on," he told her, but his hands said something differently.
