OC RP - Fiona

"Hey, sorry if you think I dropped off the face of the earth," Matty's text was a nice surprise as Fiona was walking home from the ice cream shop. It still felt like summer, even if it was the middle of September.

And here she'd been so down about her friendship with Dakota and her longing for Ezra to show up unexpectedly. She knew she'd blown it with Matty. She was afraid she would never hear from him again after their last encounter, which she thought must have been brutal for him when she drank too much red wine.

Before she could text him, she heard a car honk, and she practically jumped. She turned to see it was Matty in his little sports car with the hood down.

"Need a ride?"

She took the offer before she could say yes. She smiled with satisfaction that this might be a new beginning instead of a lonesome tragedy she'd overthink, as usual.

"How you been?" His hands were on the steering wheel as he looked over at her before he moved back into the late afternoon traffic.

"OK, I-"

"Don't say another word. It was me-"

"No, it wasn't. I'm sorry." Fiona blurted as her face tensed. It felt so awkward to talk about their night together.

"Let's go for a drive," he said. "We need to get out of town."

Fiona nodded. She couldn't stop thinking about what Dakota said about Matty (being a wannabe Harry Styles). Fiona didn't believe that. He was just cool, from Fiona's perspective. Still, there was so much she didn't know about him. She didn't know if he even had a job. Perhaps he didn't need one.

"So what have you been doing?" She was certain Dakota would want to know.

"Nothing to great," he gave her a toothy grin as his hair whipped so fashionably in the sea breeze.

"What does that mean, exactly?" Fiona winced, wishing she would just let this rest, but she felt she was now a spy who had to explain everything to Dakota so she'd stop bothering her about Matty. Was he really boyfriend material? Seized Fiona's mind.

"You know, the usual," he smirked.

The miles were getting faster, and Fiona kept thinking she needed to know him.

"What is the usual?" She looked at him, thinking she wished his words weren't so empty.

"I have connections. Business, you know."

"Oh."

He was being aloof as usual, and here she was going into the unknown. The wine had saved her last time, but she wasn't sure how to get out of this one.
